Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Rumored Synopsis + Cast! My Thoughts

Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Rumored Synopsis + Cast! My Thoughts

Over the last month or so we’ve gotten updates, release dates, casting, and rumored plots for Christopher Nolan’s next movie. It’s big and exciting news so I wanted to talk about it. Let’s get started!

The Rumored Plots: This is where things get interesting because there’s multiple different rumored plots going on here. I’ve heard that there’s two rumored plots for this movie, both of them are very different but it’s Christopher Nolan so I’m excited for whatever he decides to make next. The first rumored plot is about aerial helicopter cops. If this is true, it sounds like it’ll be a father/son story so when the first confirmed cast members are Matt Damon and Tom Holland, there’s a big enough age gap where you can see that being the case. The other one is rumored to be a 1920s vampire horror movie, which that’s a genre that Nolan hasn’t done before. And it’s a genre that people have been wanting to see from him for a while. Even in interviews, he’s talked about wanting to do a horror movie. For me, both of these plots sound fantastic and I’m super excited for whatever Nolan does next. I don’t know which one is true and which one is false, but no matter what it is I’m excited for it. Nolan is widely regarded as one of the best directors of the century, he’s coming off of Oppenheimer that printed Universal money and won them a lot of Oscars and awards. Seeing Nolan’s take on a 1920s vampire movie is a supernatural horror film that could be very cool because Nolan hasn’t done anything like it before. But if the confirmed plot is the aerial helicopter pilots, that’s also very cool that I’m on board for.

The Cast: This is an interesting cast because I have thoughts on all of them for different reasons and I’m excited that all of them are attached to this movie. Just in general, I’m not too surprised by any of these castings. Christopher Nolan always gets talent, all of his casts have world class talents and get multiple A-listers in his movies. When I hear that the actors are big movie stars I’m not too surprised.

  1. Matt Damon: Based on the reports when he was cast, it sounds like Damon is the lead of the movie. Obviously, Matt Damon has been an A-list actor for nearly 30 years, Good Will Hunting turns 30 in a few years. I think it’s very cool that Damon 30+ years into his career is still working on big blockbusters with top tier directors. This will be the third collaboration between Damon and Nolan, he had a small cameo in Interstellar, a bigger role but still a side character in Oppenheimer. It sounds like this will be his first team leading a Christopher Nolan movie. I’m very excited about this because Matt Damon might be my favorite actor of all time. I love so many of his movies and he’s done a large variety of movies. In every genre that he’s done, it turns out great. He’s done a great job of working with award winning directors, one of the roles that solidified him as an A-lister was working with Steven Spielberg on Saving Private Ryan. I like that he’s leading a Christopher Nolan movie and I think it’s good for his career. He’s been constantly working, but he hasn’t a hit film with him in the lead since The Martian. He’s been starring in movies, he was in a Jason Bourne movie the following year but it seems like everybody forgot about that. He’s starred in several other movies where he’s been the lead, but they’ve either bombed or didn’t get talked about a lot. Matt Damon is in his mid-50s, he can’t do much more Jason Bourne movies and I think starring in a Christopher Nolan movie where he’s the lead is great for his career and can remind people that he’s one of the best actors of the last 30 years.
  1. Tom Holland & Zendaya: I wanted to clump them together, because I have the same feelings for both of them being cast. I think this is a good career move for both of them. Zendaya has done a better job of managing her career the thing that spring boarded her to the A-list was the trilogy of Spider-Man, and since then she’s been in The Greatest Showman, Dune, and Challengers. She’s doing very different movies showcasing her acting ability and that she can do very different things. Adding another top tier director of the century with Christoper Nolan to her resume is a fantastic career move. Obviously, we don’t know what the plot is and how big of a role she’s going to have but this could be another great movie to add to her resume. You also have to talk about Tom Holland. I'm glad that he’s getting cast in something like this. His star-making performance was Spider-Man. That’s going to be his most popular character of his entire career. With the one-two punch of Civil War and Homecoming he becomes one of the faces of the future of Hollywood. Outside of the MCU, he hasn’t done the best job with his career. He’s done films like The Devil All the Time and Cherry, that I haven’t seen but I’ve heard that it shows his acting range and that he’s more than just Spider-Man. But those are movies that had some buzz when they came out, but aren’t really talked about now. I didn’t hear much positives about Cherry, everybody agreed that Tom Holland is great but the movie itself isn’t very good. Currently, Mr. Holland is 28 years old, he still has the youthful look for Spider-Man, I’m excited for Spider-Man 4. But, it’s going to be weird if he plays Spider-Man for over a decade and hasn’t done much outside of that. He gets cast in this movie and shows the world to a much bigger audience that he’s world class and a fantastic actor. This is where things get interesting, Christopher Nolan’s next movie comes out July 17th, 2026 which as we’ve talked about has Holland and Zendaya. The following week, Spider-Man 4 comes out which also stars Holland and Zendaya. Both of these movies are filming next year, that’s kind of crazy. Sounds like 2026 is the summer of Tom Holland and Zendaya. Final thoughts, I’m excited that both of them are going to be in this movie.
  1. Anne Hathaway: I don’t have as interesting of thoughts with Hathaway joining the cast. She’s been an A-list movie star for 20 years now and it seemed like for a bit she was one of Nolan's regulars. Because she was in back-to-back Nolan films with The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, then hasn’t worked with Nolan in 10 years now. It’s cool that she’s joining another Nolan movie, they seem to work well together. I feel like the other three there’s something more interesting to talk about with joining the cast.
