2027 Best Picture Predictions (November 2026)
The Oscars are just a few months away, and since I last did these predictions in March 2026, almost all of these movies have been released, and we have reviews for them. So here are my new, updated predictions for which movies I think are going to receive a Best Picture nomination. Here we go!
March 2026 List: So this is the list of movies that I had predicted in March 2026, and we’re going through and figuring out which movies I’ll take off and which ones I’ll keep!
The Odyssey (July 17th, 2026)
The Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth (November 25th, 2026)
Dune: Part III (December 18th, 2026)
Wild Horse Nine (November 6th, 2026)
Digger (October 2nd, 2026)
Michael (April 24th, 2026)
Project Hail Mary (March 20th, 2026)
Disclosure Day (June 12th, 2026)
Fjord (October 9th, 2026)
The Social Reckoning (October 9th, 2026)
What Movies Would I Take Off?: I’m taking The Social Reckoning and Digger off because they didn’t get enough of a positive response. Digger is a very polarizing film; you can find all sorts of people who absolutely adored that movie (one of my friends claimed it to be the best movie of 2026). They are absolutely fans of this movie (myself included). But I think between the polarizing response to the film and the film’s disastrous box office, I don’t think this movie is going to make as big of a splash as we thought. With that said, I don’t think it’s a full zero percent change that Digger gets in. I think the industry loves it enough that maybe it does slip in there. The Social Reckoning was pretty much dead on arrival; it seems like most people are pretty mixed on the film. I don’t see a lot of people full-blown loving the movie, but there are also not many people hating on the movie. Michael, I think, shows up somewhere. A lot of people are still predicting Jafar Jackson to slip into Best Actor. We’ll see if that happens. I think the negative response to Michael really hurt his chances. I think he shows up somewhere in awards season, but I don’t think he gets an Oscar nomination. Disclosure Day, while being more liked, I think was another super polarizing film. I put it on there simply because it’s Steven Spielberg, and you don’t want to bet against Spielberg, especially when it’s a genre that he’s familiar with. This is another one that I think gets at least a couple of nominations; in particular, I think John Williams gets in because the Oscars love him and he seems to always get nominated. Maybe it shows up in sound or visual effects, which are deserving, but as far as Best Picture goes, I would be shocked if that happens. Fjord is another one that gets some nominations. I haven’t seen this movie yet, so I can’t speak on the quality ot the movie. It looks like it’ll slip into international feature film and get that nomination. I’ve heard the screenplay floated around for a nomination and then maybe one or two acting nominations for our two leads, Renate Reinsive and Sebastian Stan. Finally, The Mis-Adventure of Cliff Booth. This is the sequel to Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, a movie that got a lot of Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Brad Pitt finally won an acting Oscar for this movie, so all around, it seemed like a sequel to that movie that’s written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by David Fincher, and stars Brad Pitt was a lock for a nomination. The problem is, this is the only movie that we don’t really know the quality of. Dune: Part III is another movie that hasn’t been released yet, and we haven’t seen it. I will say this: apparently some test screenings for the movie happened, and they were extremely positive. I don’t know how good Cliff Booth is going to be. I’m just curious how much money and effort they’re going to put into Cliff Booth to get it Oscar nominations.
What Movies Would I Add In?: So, with me still having The Odyssey, Dune: Part III, Wild Horse Nine, and Project Hail Mary in there for Best Picture nominations. What are the other six movies I’m predicting here? These movies are listed from what I think is most to least likely.
La Bola Negra (December 4th, 2026): This is an interesting one because this movie wasn’t on anybody’s radar back in March when I was doing my Best Picture predictions. Since then, the movie has premiered at Cannes and has been picked up by Netflix. I haven’t seen this movie yet; I do fully plan on watching it. Ever since this movie premiered at Cannes, it’s been getting rave reviews. People are loving this movie so much and saying that it’s going to compete with The Odyssey as the film that could win Best Picture. Netflix has always been very competitive at the Oscars; they always seem to get at least one film into Best Picture. Last year it was Frankenstein, and this year it looks to be La Bola Negra. Netflix has never won the Best Picture award, and so maybe this’ll be its time when La Bola Negra can beat The Odyssey and Christopher Nolan at the Oscars.
The Debut (December 11th, 2026): This is one that I did actually float when making that Best Picture prediction in March. This is Jesse Eisenberg’s second directorial effort after A Real Pain in 2024, which I found to be absolutely delightful and really good. The film got multiple Oscar nominations, including Kieran Culkin winning the Oscar for Supporting Actor, and the film’s screenplay, by Eisenberg, was even nominated. I think my reasoning for not including it was because A Real Pain did miss Best Picture. Granted, I think it was very close to being in. It was probably 11th or 12th on that list. So I did have a little bit of skepticism about whether The Debut could slip into the top 10. Well, the movie premiered at TIFF back in September and is another film that’s been getting non-stop praise. Many people are calling it one of the best films of 2026, and even predicting it will win a few Oscars. The big one is Julianne Moore in Best Actress; apparently, she has some fantastic scenes in this movie. She’s giving it her all and has some scenes that were applauded at TIFF. Paul Gimatti is a frontrunner in the Supporting Actor category; some people are even saying he could win in his category. If there’s already talk of two of its performances winning major prizes, then you have to include The Debut in your predictions.
The Invite (July 10th, 2026): This movie wasn’t on my radar going into 2026, but it premiered at Sundance in January to once again… glowing reviews. The movie came out this past summer, and I absolutely loved it. It is one of my favorite movies of the year, and just in general, it’s one of the most creative and unique movies of 2026. This is another that, due to the praise it’s been getting and it being a film that seems to be loved by the industry, is a really good sign. The screenplay is so tight and sharp that I think it makes its way into the Best Adapted Screenplay category. Our performances with Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton are fantastic, and I think a few of them get nominated, especially the two ladies, Wilde and Cruz. Wilde has also been talked about for Best Director, and if she gets into that category and Best Actress, she’ll make history as the only woman to get nominated in the directing and lead actress categories in the same year. I’ve also seen people predict Edward Norton is nominated for Supporting Actor, which would be a really cool nomination. I think his monologue in the film is going to help earn that nomination. We could have a situation where Seth Rogen is the only main cast member to not receive an Oscar nomination. The Invite is a movie that 100% deserves a Best Picture nomination, and I hope it happens because it’s fantastic and deserves awards love.
All of a Sudden (November 25th, 2026): Of the movies on this list, this is the one that I know the least about. I haven’t seen a trailer for this movie; I don’t know the cast or even what the movie is about. I believe this movie premiered at Cannes, and I hate to sound like a broken record, but it got fantastic reviews. It’s another foreign film, so I’m curious how many foreign-language films will get a Best Picture nomination; La Bola Negra is basically a lock at this point, so can All of A Sudden also slip in there. I’ve heard some of the performances are great and worthy of nominations. I don’t have anything really interesting to say about this movie because I don’t really know what it is or what it’s about. But it’s a film that a lot of people are talking about, so I felt like I wanted to include it here.
You Can See Everything (October 16th, 2026): This would be a historical nomination; if You Can See Everything gets the Best Picture nomination, it’ll be the first documentary in history to get that nomination. I’m not normally a documentary person; those aren’t the stories that I gravitate towards, but I absolutely loved You Can See Everything. It’s so compelling and gripping, but it’s hard to fully explain why without spoiling where the movie goes in the back half. Maybe there’s some recent bias and me loving this film, but I do think it makes it in. I think a big reason why is because the movie is getting people talking. People are talking about this movie and loving it. It’s absolutely killing it at the box office; this past weekend it outgrossed Clayface. This documentary outgrossed a DC movie; that’s crazy. It held a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes for weeks, now at 96% with 204 reviews counted. Even though it dropped four percent, it’s still beloved. I think there are many other categories that it could slip into, like Best Director. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the film is eligible for a Supporting Actress nomination. If you’ve seen the movie, you know who I’m talking about. I don’t know if that nomination happens, but it would be a really cool nomination. We’ll see how many Academy voters think about You Can See Everything as a “film”, but it deserves the nomination, as the movie is absolutely fantastic.
Artifical (December 25th, 2026): This movie wasn’t really on my radar until they put out the first trailer for the movie about a month or two ago. If you don’t know what this movie is, it’s the latest film from Luca Guadagnino, who did Call Me By Your Name and Challengers, and it had a great trailer. It’s about Sam Altman, the guy who created OpenAI, and the story of that. It has a stacked cast with Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Cooper Hoffman, Chris O’Dowd, Jason Schwartzman, Mark Rylance, and other familiar faces. It premiered at the New York Film Festival in early October to glowing reviews; people are loving this movie. In particular, Andrew Garfield has been getting a lot of praise; people seem to be loving this performance and saying he’s a frontrunner in the Supporting Actor category. It looks like it’s going to be a race between Paul Gimatti for The Debut and Andrew Garfield for this movie. I think, with it tackling AI, which is a very relevant topic in today’s society I think it gets in. I’ve seen some people put it more safely in their Best Picture prediction, like in the 7th or 8th spot. Maybe I’m underestimating how strong this movie is. But it seems like a lot of Guadagnino’s recent films don’t get the Oscar nomination that people are predicting. Call Me By Your Name is really his only film that made a big splash at the Oscars. But Artificial is getting a lot of people talking, and it has that prime December release date, so I think it gets in. As we get closer and the more people are talking about it in the awards conversation, the more excited I am for the movie. I’m also excited to see Garfield’s performance; I love him as an Oscar, and I want to see him win an Oscar. He should’ve won one for Tick, Tick…Boom! and the fact the was snubbed for The Social Network is still a shock to me.
