The Batman: Part II: Delayed Again! What’s Happening?

The Batman: Part II: Delayed Again! What’s Happening?

It has been tough being a Batman fan over the last few years. The Batman: Part II has gotten multiple delays since it was announced in 2022. The Batman was my favorite movie of 2022, and I have been so excited for the sequel to come out, and it just never seems to want to come out. Let us get started!

My Thoughts

So, if you have not been paying attention to the news on The Batman: Part II. This film was originally slated to release in October 2025 then due to the strikes it was delayed to October 2026 and then October 2027. The script was turned in a little while ago and filming has started so it seemed like the film was going to hit its October 2027 release date. Earlier today, Matt Reeves released a video teasing some footage for The Batman: Part II while also revealing the film got delayed again to February 2028. This will now be almost 6 years to the day after The Batman came out. To put the timeline of things into perspective. Matt Reeves was hired as the director in February 2017 when I was in 6th grade, Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman when I was in 8th grade, the film came out when I was a Junior in high school, and now the sequel won’t come out until 9 months after I graduate college. Just to put into perspective how long this whole Batman journey has been.

There has been so much debate and discussion about what is going on and why The Batman: Part II is taking so long to come out. It seems like every delay, there is a reasonable explanation as to what happened. The reason it did not keep its 2025 release date was because of the strikes. That is fair and Matt Reeves could not work on the script for months, so the fact it was delayed is not too surprising. The 2026 to 2027 release date was a little bit more up in the air. There were rumors/reports that there was some stuff going on in Matt Reeves’ personal life that was making it harder to fully continue working on the film. I do not know if that is true, but there were some things that were released that made that true. It was also around when the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman dropped so people were wondering if they were waiting to see how that film did critically and financially to decide what they want to do with Robert Pattinson’s Batman. Since then, Gunn has denied the claims that Pattinson is moving to the DCU.

As of right now, there is really no explanation as to why the film got delayed again. I will say this; it is getting ridiculous just how long this movie is taking to come out. I hope that means there is no trouble in the production and I hope it means that they are just really trying to get the script right and they want it to be a great and worthy sequel to the 2022 film. I guess that JJ Abrams next film, The Great Beyond got delayed from November of this year and is now taking The Batman: Part II’s spot next year. That still does not seem like a good enough reason to delay the film another four months. I hope whatever is going on with Matt Reeves and the production of this film gets figured out because I want to see this movie. It was my most anticipated film of 2027, and now I am going to have to find another one and it is now likely it will be my most anticipated movie of 2028 or at least be high up there.
