Project Hail Mary’s Early Reviews are FANTASTIC!

Project Hail Mary is one of my most anticipated movies of 2026. The film is less than a month away from release, which means critics have seen the film. Every single review I’ve seen of the film has been fantastic and glowing. Let’s talk about it!

The Review

  • “Project Hail Mary is perfect. Imagination unleashed even better than I pictured it on the page…[Ryan Gosling], your earliest Best Actor contender, and my sweet prince Rocky…tears flowed all through the third act. What a beautiful display of companionship.” - Liam Crowley
  • “Project Hail Mary is the best movie I’ve seen this year. Masterpiece. The visuals delivered here are tremendously innovative, bending IMAX to its maximum capabilities. It’s unrelentingly creative and rocks with ideas of connection and humanity. Brilliant movie.” - Brandon Davis
  • “Project Hail Mary is PHENOMENAL! This movie is a masterpiece. It is way funnier than I expected it to be, it never feels the runtime, and is truly heartwarming. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with Rocky! Ryan Gosling is one of the best working today. Wow!” - Tessa Smith (Mama’s Geeky)
  • “Project Hail Mary is masterful and so beautifully done. A truly heartwarming story of humanity and friendship. A superb performance from Ryan Gosling, a career best. Greg Fraser’s cinematography is exquisite to perfection.” - Jazz Tangcay
  • “Project Hail Mary is profound and profoundly moving, an absolute masterpiece of hope and humanity. It’s also insanely entertaining, funny, thrilling, surprising, and hopeful. As cheers as it is to say ‘we need this movie right now,’, well, we do. And I’m so thankful it’s here.” - Drew Taylor

My Thoughts: As you can see all of the early buzz for Project Hail Mary hasn’t just been good, it’s been fantastic. Everybody is deeming this film a masterpiece and an early contender for one of the best films of the year. I tried to find a negative review or even somebody saying “it’s good but not great”, and I couldn’t find it. I do feel sometimes the word “masterpiece” is used too much. But, the fact that multiple people are saying that about this film is very impressive. After the 98th Oscar ceremony occurs on Sunday, March 15th. I’m going to predict the films I think are getting nominated for best picture at the 2027 Oscars. I don’t wanna spoil too much but Project Hail Mary is going to be on that list. It’s not too surprising that Ryan Gosling is delivering a great performance, I mean when has he never been great? If he gets the Oscar nomination for best actor, this would be his fourth nomination. Ryan Gosling needs to and should win an Oscar here at some point. Maybe this it’ll be it, I doubt it but who knows. The other thing about the film that gives me hope is people praising the runtime and saying that it doesn’t feel runtime. I was a bit worried when the runtime was revealed to be 2 hours and 36 minutes long. I wasn’t sure if the movie would feel too long and stretched out, based on the reviews I’ve seen it doesn’t feel that way which is good. This was already one of my most anticipated films of 2026 and these early reviews only solidified that this is a film that I’m very excited to see.
