2026 Super Bowl Trailers Ranked
Yesterday was the 2026 Super Bowl. That means we get movie trailers for several upcoming big films releasing in 2026. Here’s my ranking of the TEN trailers that dropped during the Super Bowl. Here we go!
NOTE: I was not watching the game, I’m not a football fan whatsoever. I was refreshing Instagram and Twitter every few years just to see what had dropped. And…wow, this was a bad year for Super Bowl trailers. Even the one that I have as my #1 I thought it was good, but it wasn’t as good as it should’ve been. I think there were just a lot of big movies missing. We knew going into the ceremony that Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day weren’t going to be there. In retrospect, I think that was a bit of a mistake. This Super Bowl needed a big time trailer win to fully make this a great year for Super Bowl trailers. As of what we got, there really wasn’t anything super special.
10. Toy Story 5 (June 19th, 2026): This is one that was promoted beforehand, we knew that we were getting some sort of new material for Toy Story 5. The material we got was a pairing of Toy Story 5 with Levi jeans showcasing Woody’s ass for about 5 seconds. That was the teaser that we got for Toy Story 5, *face palm*. Seriously? We still don’t have a full length teaser for this film. The film comes out in June and we’ve gotten three seconds of Woody’s ass plus a 60 second teaser showcasing that technology is involved with this film. That’s weird to me, I was expecting a 30 second teaser that would bring us straight to full length trailer online. Why didn’t we get it? I don’t know. This film is still going to make a lot of money regardless but they need to start marketing this film in a way to get people excited and show up. So far they’ve done a 60 second teaser and three seconds of footage that was used to promote Levi jeans. That’s weird and I simply don’t get it. So easily, this is the weakest teaser that we got.
9. The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22nd, 2026): This was such a bizarre way to advertise an upcoming Star Wars film. We’re getting a new Star Wars movie in a few months and we only have one full length trailer. They put the first trailer out in September and they said that they’d be giving us a new trailer at the Super Bowl. This is not what I was expecting and not what a lot of people were expecting. It’s this 30 second bit of Mando and Grogu riding on Star Wars creatures through the show with Sam Elliott narrating it. I don’t think Sam Elliott is in the movie or so why is he narrating this spot? It’s so weird and bizarre to market a Star Wars movie this way. I’ve seen some people mock this trailer and say that it feels like a car commercial set in Star Wars and they’re not wrong. This is a movie that desperately needs people to get excited for it and thus far they haven’t done anything to get people excited. We need another full length teaser that properly promotes and sells this movie. I hope that before the end of the month we get another full length teaser and not whatever this crap was.
8. Minions & Monsters (July 1st, 2026): Weirdly enough, Minions & Monsters was one of the two full length teasers that we got at the Super Bowl. I think I’ve sort of just aged out of the target audience for this franchise. I watched the teaser and it didn’t really do anything for me. It was totally watchable and displayed all of the new Minions hijinks and what they’re getting up to. But that’s sort of the problem with the teaser, it’s just showcasing the audience what fans of this franchise want from it. They seem to be doing something different with this film, it’s taking place in 1930s Hollywood with the Minions trying to make their own film. Why is that the plot of a Minions movie? I don’t know. It feels like the franchise is running out of ideas and the film only exists because these Despicable Me/Minions movies just keep on printing money for Universal. I’m sure the trailer plays well with kids as it’s stuff they enjoy but as a 21 year old college student, I just don’t care about this franchise anymore.
7. Hoppers (March 6th, 2026): Pixar is giving us TWO movies in 2026, one of them is Hoppers, a new original film from the studio. By this point in time, we’ve already gotten several trailers and tv spots so we have a pretty good idea for what this movie is going to be. To be honest, I thought this teaser was fine. It didn’t do anything that annoyed me but it also didn’t do anything that made me excited. This teaser didn’t move the needle for me in terms of my excitement. It’s a film that looks gorgeous, it’s of course a Pixar production so everything just looks big and expensive. I feel like with this teaser and it’s just recycling information and footage that we’ve seen before. I haven’t done the research and compared everything shot to the teasers we’ve gotten in the past to this teaser. But from when I’ve seen the trailers in the movie theater this just looks like a recycle of footage that we’ve seen before. I don’t know if I can rank this any higher up on the list for those reasons.
6. Supergirl (June 26th, 2026): This teaser was very simple but very cute. For the most part it’s a recycle for footage that we got in the trailer we got back in December. As somebody who liked that trailer and thought it was fun, a nice 30 second summary of that I thought was nice. The new stuff here was pretty adorable with focusing on Krypto as a puppy. They really sold this teaser as Krypto as a puppy which is of course adorable because Krypto is so cute. The teaser actually did work for me as it showed that maybe the relationship between Supergirl and Krypto is going to give the film this extra emotional beat. We see that their relationship is very different from the relationship we got in Superman with Superman and Krypto. I will say, it was a bit interesting that we didn’t get anymore of Jason Momoa as Lobo. I think if they could’ve found a way to put him in there, this teaser could’ve moved up a few spots on this list.
5. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (April 1st, 2026): Another animated movie that is very likely going to make $1 billion and be one of the year’s highest grossing films. My excitement for this film isn’t super high, I enjoyed the first one well enough. But it’s not a top tier great movie in my mind, I’m not surprised we’re getting another one. I will say that I think the footage they’ve released over the past month is better than
what we got a few months back. The stuff with Yoshi and is selling us more on the
plot and the scope of the story. The trailers we’ve gotten this past week have made me more excited for this film. I’m still not super excited for this movie, but it did bump up my excitement just a little bit. I will say, some of the jokes here feel very cheap to me. Yoshi eating somebody and then popping out an egg feels like a lower common denominator type of joke. It’s an easy joke to make but that doesn’t make it a good joke to make. The trailer was good and solid and it did its job, but it didn’t wow me.
4. Scream 7 (February 27th, 2026): The latest addition to the iconic horror franchise had a new spot drop during the Super Bowl. It’s a bit interesting that this movie comes out in a few weeks and we only have one full length trailer for it. Regardless, I thought this was a good tv spot. It built the tension and the urgency of the film, it showcased more of the family dynamics. It delivered a bunch of iconic shots that you want in a trailer for a Scream film. It’s not doing anything that’s super groundbreaking or exciting but for a short 30 second teaser it did it’s job and was good. I do find it a bit weird that Matthew Lillard hasn’t been in any of the marketing for the film. We all know that he’s coming back but he’s not in a single frame of the marketing. I’m not sure what that means but it’s a bit of an interesting detail that would get fans excited if we see his face. I’m not super excited for this film, I’m a bit worried about it. But overall, this was a good teaser.
3. The Adventures of Cliff Booth (TBA): This one surprised me that it dropped during the Super Bowl. All of the other ones were heavily rumored or confirmed to be dropping, this one wasn’t. This is one that I actually forgot on my most anticipated list of 2026, but it would 100% be on there. This was an interesting teaser because it was only about a minute long and didn’t really give away any plot details about the film. The teaser is able to capture the chaotic energy of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood nicely. Brad Pitt is of course a movie star that evokes this movie star charm and charisma from him. In terms of the style it’s done very well as it has to censor a lot of stuff but it does it creatively, so it’s a more memorable teaser. Even the fact that they didn’t show the title for the film or a release date is a bit strange. This teaser didn’t necessarily change my excitement, it just solidified that this is a movie that I’m very excited to check out hopefully this summer on Netflix or in theaters.
2. Disclosure Day (June 12th, 2026): The latest film from Steven Spielberg and this is one that I’m very excited for. This was a cool trailer because it both showed footage we saw in the trailer back in December while also showcasing some new elements and what the film is going to be about. It’s showing that this film is both going to be fantastical and sci-fi while also being grounded in very human emotion while fitting perfectly in 2026 with the era of social media. You also have a fantastic cast here with Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell, and Colman Domingo. All of those are actors that I love and seeing them work with a legend like Spielberg is awesome. Steven Spielberg is one of the top directors of the last 50 years, it’s him returning to a genre that’s familiar territory so I hope this is an all time great Steven Spielberg blockbuster. I’ll make my list of most anticipated summer 2026 films in April, you can expect this movie to be on that list.
1. Project Hail Mary (March 20th, 2026): This is one of my most anticipated movies of the year and we got our final trailer that actually dropped before the Super Bowl. This is a trailer that I thought was awesome and only raised my excitement but at the same time, I wish I hadn’t seen it because it revealed a few things that I wish it didn’t. But regardless, this is still a movie that I’m excited about. What I thought this trailer did really well was showcase the scope and scale of the story. You see the gorgeous visuals for the film, this is going to be one of the best looking films of the year and that’s incredible. The cinematographer for the film is Greg Fraser who did the Dune films as well as The Batman, those are films that look incredible and gorgeous. The fact that he’s doing this movie makes me so excited and it looks like it’ll be a visual feast deserving of seeing on the biggest possible screen. Ryan Gosling seems to be delivering a great performance, balancing both his comedic and dramatic chops. This looks to be one of the best films of 2026 and if it’s not, it’ll be a big disappointment.
