Top 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2026

Top 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2026

Tomorrow 2026 that means it’s time to start looking ahead at 2026. Today I’m going to be sharing my picks for my 15 most anticipated films for 2026. Let’s get started!

15. The Rip (January 16th, 2026): This is the first movie on this list that I’ll be checking out. This is a Netflix original film, it’s a mid-budget action cop thriller directed by Joe Carnahan. He’s done a lot of action movies like this and does more stunt focused action films. Our two leads are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as the cops trying to cover this crime happening in Miami. I’m a big fan of Matt Damon and Jason Bourne so anytime we get a movie where he’s beating people up I get very excited. It’s also fun to see Ben Affleck beat people up as well. Of course for all of the obvious reasons it’s fun to see Damon and Affleck on screen together doing a movie like this. You also have Teyana Taylor, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Steven Yeun as some of the supporting characters here. I’m not expecting this movie to be one of the best of the year or anything like that. As long as this is a B-movie that delivers the experience I want, I’ll be satisfied. I like this genre and the actors involved so it sounds fun to me.

14. Crime 101 (February 13th, 2026): This is another thriller of sorts, except this one is about a thief trying to do one final score but gets caught up in stuff that makes it hard. The trailer sells the movie on being a lot of fun and a very simple and straight forward one of these movies. The cast here is stacked with Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, and Nick Nolte. So you have multiple comic book movie heroes and villains in here. It’s filled with actors that I enjoy seeing in big budget movies like this. Like The Rip, it feels like the kind of movie that we don’t get a lot of in 2026. In a year with so many sequels, reboots, and remakes coming out I kind of like the idea of getting this original thief heist thriller with a star studded cast. I hope this movie is well received and gets good reviews because I want Hollywood to make more like this. We’ve gotten a couple of trailers for this movie and they’re selling me on it.

13. The Social Reckoning (October 9th, 2026): This is one that I’m very curious about and I don’t really know what this movie is going to be. If you don’t know what this is, this is a sequel to The Social Network written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. This film is about this journalist and a Facebook engineer unraveling Facebook’s secrets, but it’s set during the January 6th riots. Having a movie come out 5 and ½ years after those events is interesting and I’m curious what that’s going to look like. Reports have come out and said that the film will recreate the January 6th riots. I trust Aaron Sorkin, he’s one of the top screenwriters of the last 35 years. The Social Network is one of the best Best Picture nominees of the last 15 years. You get Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Jeremy Strong in here, Strong is replacing Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg. This is one that I think is going to be very polarizing, I hope it doesn’t get preachy. But I know that I’m excited and very curious to check this movie out.

12. Toy Story 5 (June 19th, 2026): Now I know that this film has sort of been trashed by audiences just based on the basic idea of this film existing. Look, would I rather have Pixar do another great original film rather than another trip to the toy chest? Sure. But when it comes to the Toy Story franchise, it’s stupid to bet against them. Toy Story 2 might be my least favorite of the bunch, but it’s still fantastic and better then a ⅓ of other Pixar films. You also have Andrew Stanton directing it, he’s a safe pick to direct a Toy Story film because he’s directed a lot of great Pixar films. Based on that, I have faith that this’ll be another great adventure with these characters. From them, I think the basic idea of the movie is interesting and fits in the year 2026. It would make sense that a kid would be more interested in a tablet than action figures and the toys having to fight back against technology feels like it makes sense for this franchise. I get that not a lot of people would have this movie on their most anticipated list, but I do and I’m excited.

11. How to Rob A Bank (September 4th, 2026): This is the latest film from David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2, Hobbs and Shaw, and The Fall Guy. It’s an action crime thriller with the premise “bank robbers are posting their heists on social media, causing police to chase them.” This just sounds like a fun movie and putting the heist genre in a modern context with social media, I’m all on board for that. Beyond that, David Leitch isn’t one of the top working directors right now but he’s made a lot of really fun movies. I enjoy all of his movies, some of them I think are great like The Fall Guy. The movie has a fun set of actors with Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Christian Slater, Pete Davidson, and John C. Reilly. You take a fun genre, a fun NEW take on the genre, with a cast and director I like and you have one of my most anticipated movies of 2025. We don’t have a trailer for this one yet, if we did this one might’ve moved up more on this list.

10. How to Make A Killing (February 27th, 2026): The latest film from Glen Powell, this one seems to be a very different film from what we’re used to seeing. But it’s basically, Glen Powell and A24’s version of “eating the rich”. Where Powell’s character was disowned by his family and is willing to kill any relatives that stand in front of the inheritance that he believes is his. This movie wasn’t really on my radar until I saw the trailer in front of Marty Supreme. It seems like an A24 film that’s more designed for me and more straight forward then other A24 films. I’m a big fan of Glen Powell and excited to see what he’s doing with his career. Once again, this film is something different from him but seems like a really fun movie. I believe Ed Harris is playing his dad in the movie, I love that casting. Ed Harris hasn’t been a lot of things over the last several years so fun that he’s going to be in a movie like this.

9. Dune: Part III (December 18th, 2026): This is one that I know a lot of people will have much higher up on their list. In general, this is probably one of the most anticipated movies of the year by audiences. I’m very excited for Dune: Part III, I have no reason to believe that this’ll be a bad movie. Dune: Part III has a lot of potential to be one of the best movies of 2026 and get a lot of awards recognition. I thought Dune: Part II was a big step up in quality from the first film. I hope that Dune: Part III is another step up in quality making this one of the best movie trilogies of the last 15-20 years. I also don’t know the Dune source material, I haven’t seen any other film adaptations or read the books. I’m excited to see where this story goes and how it wraps everything up. We’re getting two great talents joining the cast with Robert Pattinson and Anya Taylor-Joy. I’m excited to see what both of them can do and what they add to this film. I trust Denis Villeneuve to make a great film and I hope he sticks the landing with this film.

8. Digger (October 2nd, 2026): Tom Cruise’s first non-action or franchise film since 2017 with American Made. I love the fact that Cruise’s first movie after the Mission Impossible franchise is something so different. I love the fact that this movie is going to hopefully remind and show audiences that Tom Cruise is a great actor. I feel like younger generations only know him as an action star despite being a great and versatile actor. We don’t actually know a lot about this film despite Tom Cruise playing a digger and it being a comedy. The film is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who directed The Revenant. If Iñárritu can help Leonardo DiCaprio win an Oscar then I’m sure he can do the same for Tom Cruise. I think it would be awesome to see him on the Oscar’s stage holding that award. You also have Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, and Jesse Plemons in the cast. So there’s a lot of very solid actors in this movie and I’m excited to see Tom Cruise do something else and hopefully showcase his full acting range.

7. Clayface (September 11th, 2026): This is one that has intrigued me since it was announced. I love that Mike Flanagan, one of the top horror directors working today, was passionate about a Clayface film and wrote it. The fact that James Gunn greenlit this movie so fast and gave it a release date makes me have faith that this is something special. I know audiences are tired of villain-lead superhero movies, especially after 2024 when so many of them bombed and got terrible reviews. The pitch they’ve given to Clayface with it being a horror film about this guy turning into Clayface and him being this monster sounds fascinating to me. I hope this is another Joker and not another Joke: Folie Á Deux. The director of the film is James Watkins, he directed Speak No Evil last year. I didn’t love the movie but I loved this direction and him being this sense of tension and dread. If he can apply that to this movie with a great script for Flanagan then I think Clayface could be something really cool.

6. Supergirl (June 26th, 2026): A movie that we’ve gotten a trailer for and that trailer sold me and made me very excited. It has this Guardians of the Galaxy vibe to it and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. The thing that has me the most excited is this’ll be the first DCU project not written or directed by James Gunn. I love Gunn but I’m excited to see what other creative talents can do within the DCU. Milly Alcock seems to be doing a great job here playing a very different version of Supergirl from what Melissa Benoist gave us on the CW in the past decade. I’m not really familiar with her work, I haven’t seen House of the Dragons or any of the other tv shows she’s done. I love that Jason Momoa is Lobo, it might be obvious casting but sometimes the obvious cast is ok and I know that he’ll knock it out of the park. The film is actually based on a comic book that was released within the last decade and apparently it’s really good and has some darker elements to it with a Supergirl that’s very different from Superman. When you put it all together you get a movie that I’m very excited to see and I hope it’s really good and continues my excitement for this DC universe.

5. Disclosure Day (June 12th, 2026): The first film from Steven Spielberg in 3 ½ years this time returning to the sci-fi genre. This is one where we got a trailer for the film a few weeks back and I’m not sure what to make of it. We know that it’s an alien invasion but how is this movie going to find a new angle in a genre that’s been done before many many times. I don’t know if this is the case but it seems to be having more of a horror edge to it especially with whatever is going with Emily Blunt’s character. Getting a sci-fi film with a little bit of horror by Steven Spielberg that sounds like a cool combination of things. No surprise but John Williams is the composer for the film, the collaborations between the two are always fantastic. You also got a great cast here with Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Colin Firth.  The fact that much talent is interested in this movie makes me curious to see whatever Spielberg is cooking here. The fact that we’re getting a new Spielberg and a new Christopher Nolan film in the same summer is super exciting to me.

4. Project Hail Mary (March 20th, 2026): This is one that I’ve been excited for ever since the first trailer dropped in July. The fact that they started marketing this movie 9 months before it releases makes me have faith that this movie is really good. The film is based on a book by Andy Weir, Andy Weir also wrote The Martian. The movie The Martian is one of my favorite movies of the 2010s. I love that film so much so seeing what else that Weir can do with the sci-fi genre has me excited. It stars Ryan Gosling, a great movie star that’s very versatile. He can be fun and charming but he can also be very dramatic and heartfelt. When you have a movie that’s him for most of the run time you need a great actor to capture your attention. The thing that I’m most curious about is Lord and Miller are directing the film. These guys don’t feel like the obvious pick to do a movie like this. You watch the movie and their sense of humor and wackiness isn’t really shown in the trailers. So I’m just curious about why this project made them direct a movie that’s very different from their past films. Speaking of the book, I haven’t read it so I don’t know where the story goes or any of the twists and turns so I’m also just excited to experience this movie. Overall, this is one that I’m very excited to check out.

3. Avengers: Doomsday (December 18th, 2026): I’m both shocked and kind of disappointed that Doomsday isn’t my #1 most anticipated film of the year. This felt like a movie that easily should’ve been #1 on the list. But for all of the obvious reasons, I have a lot of skepticism about this film. I hope it’s awesome, I hope I leave the theater loving this movie. The Russo Brothers have the best track record in the MCU, their MCU films are my 4 favorite movies in the MCU. So I have faith in them delivering something really cool. I hope this movie can give me a similar experience as to what Infinity War and Endgame gave me. The nostalgia heart strings were being pulled when we got that trailer showcasing Chris Evans’ return. We’re getting a lot of our classic X-Men in this movie, I hope we get them in their comic accurate suits. I love to see James Marsden rock that classic Cyclops look. Getting a movie where The Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts* to be in sounds awesome to me. But at the same time, a lot of the decisions that we know about this movie feels like very obvious course corrections and desperation attempts to get fans excited. I’m still pumped for this film, I’m going to be there opening night but I do have a lot of concerns.

2. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31st, 2026): I gotta be honest, I’m a bit shocked that Spider-Man is higher on the list than Doomsday. But as of right now, I don’t have as many concerns so I’m just excited for this movie. I absolutely loved Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movie. I think two of his movies are great. He’s charming and embodies Spider-Man so well. With this movie they’re changing up enough to make it feel different from what we’ve seen before. First up, Jon Watts is not returning to direct this film, it’s been directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who directed Shang-Chi. That’s one of the stronger post-Endgame films and he did a lot of really cool martial arts fights. If he can apply those abilities to a Spider-Man movie then we could get some really cool Spider-Man action in here. Apparently, Jackie Chan’s stunt team worked on the film and praised a lot of what Tom Holland is doing. I’m very excited to see Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in here and see the dynamic between him and Spider-Man. I’m just excited to see how this movie ties into the MCU especially with this being the final MCU film before Doomsday. I’m very curious when we’re going to get a trailer hopefully sometime this month.

1. The Odyssey (July 17th, 2026): Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal are going to have a really good 2026 because within two weeks they have two movies coming out. The one that I’m more excited for, that’s also my most anticipated film of 2026 is The Odyssey. Christopher Nolan is one of the top working directors today and tackling some of the most famous source material of all time makes me so excited for what this can be. It also just feels different from other Nolan movies tackling subject matter from a time and a place that we haven’t seen before. As always he assembled a pretty stacked cast. The one I’m most excited for is Tom Holland and having him be in a movie like this after being so well known for being Spider-Man I think is smart. I hope this movie shows his full acting range and that he’s more than just Spider-Man. You get Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo, and so many other familiar faces in this film. This one that I’m so excited to see, this’ll likely be a film that’s talked about for most of the year as it’s going to get a lot of Oscar nominations. I hope this movie is great and one of the best of the year, and I have no reason to doubt Nolan.
