Avengers: Doomsday Trailers Dropping in Front of Avatar: Fire and Ash? Smart Decision?

Rumor has it that Avengers: Doomsday’s first trailer will premiere in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash next month. What do I make of this? Does it give me faith in the film’s quality that Disney will likely be marketing this film a year in advance? Let’s talk!

My Thoughts

This isn’t confirmed but there’s been several rumors and speculations that a big trailer will drop in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash. This isn’t too terribly surprising since Fire and Ash is likely to be the highest grossing movie of the year, it might even make $2 billion, so studios specifically Disney want to premiere a big trailer in front of it. There’s rumors that other studios might want a trailer in front from either Supergirl, The Odyssey, or Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But the one that seems the most likely to happen is Avengers Doomsday since that’s 100% a Disney film.

If the trailer actually does drop next month then I think it's brilliant because Avengers Doomsday needs a lot of hype surrounding it and as of now there’s been more negative headlines then positive. Online conversations people are having about this film are negative talking about the diminishing interest in the MCU as a whole, the lack of focus so it’s not clear who the leads of the movie are. Several actors have had comments in the last couple of months talking about the filming and script that have left people nervous. Marvel needs to win trust and faith with its audience because they need this movie to be a win and make well over $1 billion, probably even closer to $2 billion. If they can cut a really good trailer that gets people excited for this movie they can easily win them back. And attaching it to Avatar: Fire and Ash where millions of people are going to be watching it, is probably very smart and starts the excitement very early on. Because COVID messed with the movie industry so much, we don’t get as many trailers that premiere a year out. That was more common 10 years ago but in 2025 we don’t get that as much. Most movies do small marketing pushes and put out a trailer four to five months out and then within the last month they do a hard marketing push so it’s interesting that there’s likely going to be doing a year long marketing push for this film. It’s also interesting because you look at the released dates for the teasers for Infinity War and Endgame, they were November 2017 and December 2018 and both of those films were released in April. Even when the MCU was on top and knocking it out of the park they didn’t release the teaser trailers for their big movies until 5 to 6 months out.

One thing I am cautious about with them marketing the film so far out in advance is that the marketing budget is going to be very high. Especially when you do a movie on this scale, it’s probably going to have one of the biggest marketing budgets of all time and starting the marketing a year out is a bit dangerous because I’m not sure how well this movie is going to do. I think it’ll make $1 billion, it’ll do slightly less then what Age of Ultron did, but it’ll make $1.4 billion. Considering the combined production and marketing budget, I don’t know if $1.4 billion is going to be enough to make it profitable. It might be but this film might need to make over $1.5 billion to be profitable, which is possible considering it’s an Avengers movie and that’s a brand that people know, RDJ is coming, and if they cut good trailers they can easily get people back and get butts in seats.

If the trailer does premiere, I think that’s very cool and getting to see an Avengers trailer on the big screen for the first time, that’s going to be very exciting and cool to experience with a packed and excited crowd.
