Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery Early Reviews Are Here! Are They Promising?

Despite not releasing in a couple of months, the third installment in the Knives Out trilogy, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has premiered at a film festival which means we have the first reactions to this film. What do I think about the reactions? Does it change my excitement for the film? Let’s talk about it!

THE REVIEWS

  • Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is superb. Not that I had any doubts whatsoever, but what a feat and true marvel seeing Rian Johnson knock three installments of a film series out of the park to such an extent…Daniel Craig is as good as ever as Benoit Blanc, but this particular case tests him Ike never before…” - Perry Nemiroff
  • Wake Up Dead Man is the best Knives Out movie yet, and that’s saying a lot. It’s so fun, so entertaining, and so fully-realized, thanks to a very well written story and Daneil Craig’s best performance so far as Benoit Blanc. Emmy-winner Josh O’Connor is flat-out fantastic.” - Scott Mantz
  • “Rian Johnson has done it again! Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the darkest, most layered, and most emotional entry in the series yet. Daniel Craig’s ever-hilarious and razor-sharp Benoit Blanc returns, but the third installment truly begins with Josh O’Connor…Glenn Close and Josh Brolin deliver standout performances.” - Matt Neglia
  • Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is easily the funniest entry in the series so far, with some of the sharpest line delivery I’ve heard all year especially from a not-yet-revealed someone…Daniel Craig once again nails Benoit Blanc, and both Josh Brolin and Kerry Washington bring a lot of energy to their roles. That said, the conclusion left me a little underwhelmed. I’m torn on this one: there’s a lot to enjoy, but not everything as well as it could have.” - According to Seth

My Thoughts: Overall, there’s a lot of very positive reviews coming out about this film. Obviously, the last review had more negative things to say. But every other review I could find about this film had them praising this film. Honestly, that’s not to surprise considering Rian Johnson nailed it with the previous two films. It seems like a lot of the praise that can be said about the previous two films, can be said about this film. What’s fun about this film is that everybody is praising the ensemble which is important considering that’s what this film is built on. So a lot of praise for Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, and Josh O’Connor who seems to be the standout of the film this could be his breakout role into movie stardom. One of the Tweets I saw said that Craig and O’Connor’s dynamic is this franchise’s taken on Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson which is kind of interesting. I wouldn’t say this changes my excitement for the film, it’s pretty much inline with my excitement before. But is reassuring that it seems like Rian Johnson has done it again and possibly delivering one of the best movie trilogies of all time.
