Top 10 Most Anticipated Summer 2025 Movies

Top 10 Most Anticipated Summer 2025 Movies

The summer movie season is just around the corner. May is next week, which means it’s time to look at the summer movie season and which movies I’m most excited for. Today, I’m sharing my list of my 10 most anticipated movies of summer 2025. Let’s get started!

10. Fountain of Youth (May 23rd, 2025): This movie wasn’t on my radar until several weeks back when the trailer dropped. I actually haven’t watched the trailer but the premise alone mixed with the cast and director sounds interesting. It’s a new Guy Ritchie film about siblings trying to find the fountain of youth. It stars John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Stanley Tucci, and Domhnal Glesson. That’s a fun cast and when you get a director like Guy Ritchie who makes fun movies you get a fun adventure film. It’s cool that Krasinski is getting to lead a movie like this. I wish he was more front and center in big action films like this. It’s also written by James Vanderbilt who wrote the two Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, one of them I really like and one of them I don’t like. He also wrote the last two Scream movies. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those movies and I thought they were funny movies. You mix a fun genre, a fun director, a fun cast, and a screenwriter that’s done a lot of movies that I enjoy. You get a movie that I’m very much looking forward to. It is an Apple TV+ original, streaming movies tend to be hits or mess. Based on everything I feel like Fountain of Youth will be an entertaining movie to watch at home.

9. The Naked Gun (August 1st, 2025): Confession time, I actually haven’t seen any of The Naked Gun movies. This was one that I wasn’t really excited for because of that. However, they dropped a trailer for this movie earlier this month and I loved the trailer. My excitement level for this movie went way up. I like that we’re getting another spoof movie. We haven’t really had any in a while. Seeing a trailer for one that looks really good makes me very excited to check it out. Every joke they had in the trailer absolutely worked for me and had me laughing out loud. Especially that final joke involving O.J. Simpson shows a great tease for what this movie is going to be like. Beyond that, Seth McFarlane is the producer on this movie and his team is working on it. He seems like a great fit to do a parody movie. I think he’s very funny, Family Guy and Ted have multiple moments that are so funny to me. His sense of humor mixed with a parody sounds like a lot of fun. Liam Nesson is able to deliver these hilarious jokes in this deadpan way and him being the star seems like perfect casting. This is one that had we not gotten a trailer wouldn’t have been on this list. That trailer was so good that it was able to move it into my #10.

8. Elio (June 13th, 2025): The next original film from Pixar and looks different for Pixar but also very charming. Based on the trailers it doesn’t seem to have the heart that other Pixar movies do. But it has this charming family vibe about it that just looks fun. Pixar has had a lot of great movies, their run recently hasn’t been the best. But Pixar has enough good will that I’m very curious and excited about whatever their next movie is going to be. From there, what makes this movie kind of fun is the co-director and co-writer. This movie is being co-directed and co-written by Adrian Molina whose been with Pixar for a long time, one of the main creative heads behind Coco. I just so happened to go to the same high school as him. He graduated before I was even born, I don’t know him. But in my small town of 15,000 people one of them works for Pixar and is involved with the creative side of this movie. That right there makes me very excited to check this out. I want to support him and hope he continues doing great stuff in Pixar. Also, it’s an original movie and I want to support original movies. Pixar’s track record with original movies is very strong, therefore I’m excited for this movie.

7. Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2nd, 2025): I know a lot of people have thrown in the towel on this franchise. They haven’t cared for any of the sequels. For me, even the weaker sequels are still entertaining. I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching dinosaurs eat people. I haven’t been as burnt out as many other people are. With the creative team, the quotes from the creative team, and the trailers I think this movie looks rather promising. It’s directed by Gareth Edwards who directed Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Creator. All of them have a really interesting look to them. He has a really good eye for visuals and applying that to a Jurassic World movie could be very interesting. I really like the cast for the movie with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. That’s a really solid cast that fits into big blockbusters nicely. Johansson even described this movie as putting the horror back into the franchise. That sounds great and something that I think this franchise needs. Am I expecting this movie to be one of the best movies of the year? No. But I am expecting it to be a fun time at the movies and based on the trailers and everything we know, it sounds like it’ll deliver that.

6. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (June 6th, 2025): I’m a newer fan to the John Wick franchise. I watched the entire franchise leading up to John Wick Chapter 4 and thought all of the movies were great. I’m very excited for this movie and think they’re capturing the right vibe for this movie. It’s very clearly a spin-off to the main franchise but keeps the ethics and style of it. I like that Chad Stahelski is involved with the movie. I like that we’re getting spin-offs in this franchise because the world building is so good and lends itself really well to spin-offs. I’ve been a fan of Ana de Armas ever since Knives Out came out. I’m happy that she’s getting a big movie in a leading role, she seems capable and up to the task of being the lead with the action. You get several actors from the main line franchise returning with Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and Anjelica Houston. Making it very clear that this is a spin-off in this universe. With the action looking great, the vibe and esthetic being present, and several actors returning it looks like a great time in the John Wick franchise.

5. The Fantastic Four: The First Steps (July 25th, 2025): The final MCU movie of 2025 and the last MCU movie before Avengers: Doomsday. The Fantastic Four’s track record with movies hasn't been great. They're not some of the best comic book movies out there. It seems like the MCU is really doing something special with this movie. At this point, we’ve gotten two trailers for the movie and both of them have a clear and distinct vibe to them. One of the common negatives in recent MCU movies is that they feel generic. They feel like they’re directed by a committee of people, not a director. You watch these trailers and it has a distinct tone. It had this futuristic 1960s vibe to it that reminds me of The Jetsons and The Incredibles. I love the cast for the movie, all of them seem to be doing a great job. Based on the trailers it feels like we’re finally going to get a good Fantastic Four movie. It’s weird that The Fantastic Four are some of Marvel’s most iconic heroes but haven’t gotten a movie that worked for large audiences. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the mid-credit scene gives us our first look at Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom and how these characters connect to Avengers: Doomsday. As a MCU fan and a comic book movie fan in general this is one that I’m very excited to see.

4. F1 (June 27th, 2025): Moving in a very direction from a big franchise film you have F1. F1 is a formula one racing movie starring Brad Pitt from the creative team behind Top Gun: Maverick. Top Gun: Maverick is one of the best films of the decade so when you have that same creative team I have a really good feeling that this is going to be something special. Based on interviews it sounds like the filming they used for Top Gun: Maverick for the aerial sequences is what they used for the racing scenes in this movie. When you watch the trailers you get those thrilling dynamic sequences that you got from Top Gun: Maverick. It follows a pretty typical sports movie template of the older mentor close to retirement as to train the new up and comer to be like him. As somebody who likes sports movies I don’t really mind that it’s going to be following a pretty familiar template. Beyond that, you have a great cast here with Brad Pitt, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem. You have Hans Zimmer composing the movie, him doing a sports movie sounds awesome as he’s one of the best film composers of all time. I love the creative team, the cast, the crew, and everything about it gets me excited for it. Easily, this is a top five most anticipated of the summer.

3. Thunderbolts* (May 2nd, 2025): The movie that is kicking off the summer movie season and releases in just over a week. I’ve heard a lot of people talking down about this movie and aren’t very excited for it. I’ve always disagreed with that as I think this movie looks great and I’ve loved all of the trailers. Similar to F4, I feel like this movie has a distinct tone and vibe to it. They’ve released behind the scenes videos for the movie and the cast are doing their own stunts. Florence Pugh is jumping off the second tallest building in the world in this movie. When you know that most of the movie is practical and not CGI noise it adds a certain level of intensity to the sequences. All of those small things that they’re distinctly doing with this movie that make it stand out and pop. Beyond that, I don’t mind that this is Marvel’s verison of Suicide Squad. I think that’s totally fine and the team they have here is filled with a lot of fun characters. They’re characters that I’m excited to be getting more of and see them interact with one another. Marvel is doing fan screenings, 2 ½ weeks before the movie comes out. That’s a good sign that they have faith in this movie being really good. Call me an MCU shill that’s excited for everything the MCU is putting out, but Thunderbolts* looks like a great time at the movies.

2. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (May 23rd, 2025): The day that I’m writing this I finished watching Dead Reckoning and finished my Mission Impossible rewatch leading up to this movie. Rewatching it solidified that this is one of the best movie franchises of all time. This franchise has been on a fantastic streak since Ghost Protocol and based on the trailers it seems like that streak is going to continue. What I like about the marketing for this movie is it seems to be focusing more on the themes and characters than the action. Dead Reckoning was marketed heavily on the stunt and they don’t seem to be doing that with this movie. That means that it’s going to provide a more shocking and exciting cinematic experience. It’s really pulled together all of the past Mission Impossible movies, even The Rabbit’s Foot from the third movie. It really feels like this is the final film in the franchise. It’s even starting to make me question Ethan’s fate in this movie. I think there’s a chance he dies in this movie. As somebody who loves these movies and Tom Cruise I’m always so excited when another one comes out. I hope this movie is able to deliver and provide a satisfying conclusion to the Mission Impossible saga.

1. Superman (July 11th, 2025): The film that is likely to be the event of the summer. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a massive comic book movie fan and we haven’t gotten a Superman movie in almost a decade. Every piece of footage we have about this movie gets me more excited and they’re getting back to the classic tried and true nature of Superman. It feels like it’s pulling inspiration heavily from the comics and the Christopher Reeves’ era of Superman. I mean that as a big positive as that’s what I like about Superman. I like Henry Cavill and Man of Steel but the American Boy Scout is the angle that I love about the character. From there, James Gunn’s track record is pretty great. As far as comic book projects, I think he’s done mostly fantastic projects with some good and fine projects in there. But 90% of them I love a lot and when his track record is so high anything he does I’m excited and curious to check out. Like I’ve said, I love the trailers we’ve gotten for this movie. They put a smile on my face and remind me why I love superheroes and comic book movies. I’m also very curious as to how this is setting up Gunn’s DC universe. There’s a lot of curiosity that comes from that and I’m excited to see it all unfold this July.
