Upcoming Superhero Movies Ranked by Excitement

Upcoming Superhero Movies Ranked by Excitement

The comic book movie genre is always expanding and we have a lot of comic book movies coming out in the future. But which ones am I the most excited for? Which one do I have the most faith in? Let’s get started!

21. Static Shock (TBA): I wouldn’t be shocked if they cancel this film. This movie was announced at DC Fandome in August 2020 with Michael B. Jordan as a producer on the film. But that’s all we know, it’s been 3 ½ years and no new updates on the film. I don’t have faith this movie is actually going to happen. I don’t know anything about Static Shock, I’ve never seen the animated show. As of now, there’s nothing about this movie that interests me, so it’s at the bottom. Maybe if we get more information about the project iy can move up.

20. Constantine 2 (TBA): For a while this movie was at the bottom of the list. But I’ve decided to swap this and Static Shock, because the nature of Constantine you can do something very different. You can do a horror movie in the comic book movie genre, so I have more hope in that regard that this could be interesting. At the same time, why are they choosing to make a sequel to a nearly 20 year old film that’s forgotten about. People forget that Keanu Reeves led a comic book movie in 2005, they could put their resources toward something a bit more interesting to me.

19. Armor Wars (TBA): This is a project they announced back in 2020 as a tv show then said it would be a movie. At first I was very interested in this film, I think there’s interesting stuff you can do with War Machine in the lead. But, there hasn’t been much given about this movie really since 2022. Especially where the MCU is at, this feels like content for the sake of content. Also, I didn't like the Rhodey twist in Secret Invasion. When this is a continuation of that, it doesn’t get me excited. I think at one point War Machine leading a film could have been interesting, right now it’s not.

18. Untitled Shang-Chi Sequel (TBA): I wouldn’t be shocked if at San Diego Comic Con this year they give this film a release date and we learn what it’s about. I rewatched the first film and I think it’s really good. I like the character of Shang-Chi and want to see more of him. But we haven’t gotten anything new about this film, we know the director is coming back, he’s focusing on this movie instead of Avengers: Kang Dynasty. I wish I could put this film higher up, but it would be dishonest since we don’t have a lot of information.

17. Blade (November 7th, 2025): The long delayed MCU film that was announced in July 2019 and won’t come out until next November. This is another one where at one point I was  excited for this film. The fact that 2 time Oscar winning actor Mahershala Ali was interested in playing Blade, I had faith this would be really good. This film has gone through two directors, multiple screenwriters, and been delayed for years. A lot of my excitement is gone. It seems like they’re getting back on track with this film and it might actually come out next November.

16. Kraven the Hunter (August 30th, 2024): I’m not a big fan of the SPUMC universe. My excitement for all of these movies isn’t super high, we do have a trailer for this film, it looks like a fun Rated-R comic book movie that’s going to have some cool action. I like Aaron Taylor-Johnson as an actor so him leading a movie like this sounds fun. However, this film was supposed to come out in October 2023 but it got delayed 10 months after it had already finished filming. That makes me think they were worried about this film, maybe they think it’s another Morbius situation. If that’s the case, yikes!

15. Venom 3 (November 8th, 2024): Of the SPUMC films coming out in 2024 this was easily the one I was the most excited for. I’ve had fun with the first two Venom movies, neither one is fantastic but they are enjoyable. I’m sure this one will be another fun film. There have been some rumors about the plot of this movie removing Spider-Man 3 from the timeline, I’m not sure if that’s the case. If that is the plot of this film, that’s a weird direction to go to close out this trilogy. Once we get a trailer and we know the angle they’re going for, this one can move up on the list.

14. The Authority (TBA): One of the upcoming films in James Gunn’s DC universe. I know nothing about The Authority, they’re an obscure team from the comics. What gets me excited about this film is the way Gunn described it, it’s told from the perspective of corrupted and evil superheroes. They’re meant to be the opposite of Superman, Batman, etc. So there’s some interesting things they can do with that concept to make it stand out. The other thing is, The Authority is very obscure and Gunn took an obscure Marvel team, The Guardians of the Galaxy and made them fan favorite characters. If Gunn is able to apply that bag of tricks, this could be a really cool movie.

13. Swamp Thing (TBA): I haven’t seen any of the past Swamp Thing movies or tv shows. I don’t know much about Swamp Thing. But I know enough about the character that they could do something really cool and different with this movie. They can easily pull in a lot of horror elements and make movies that’s for adults. James Mangold is in talks to direct the film. I loved Ford v Ferrari from a few years ago. He directed one of the most celebrated comic book movies of all time with Logan. I’ll need to know more about this film, I’ll need to know who’s writing the script, who’s the case. And whether or not Mangold is actually directing the film.

12. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (TBA): Just last month we got casting for Supergirl, Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon is Supergirl. I haven’t seen House of the Dragon but everything I’ve heard says she's great in the show. The way James Gunn described the film seems to be a nice contrast with Superman. Both Superman and Supergirl were sent away from Krypton as it was destroyed. In the process Superman made it to Earth and Supergirl didn’t. So explore how they would be different when one was raised by good people on Earth and the other one had to fend for herself on a planet. That’s a very interesting idea, it can provide nice character development.

11. Untitled Tom Holland Spider-Man 4 (TBA): I wouldn’t be shocked if in the coming months we get more information regarding this film, we learn more about the  angle they’re with. I really liked what Tom Holland has done with Spider-Man. Spider-Man: No Way Home both served as a satisfying ending to the trilogy, but also set up a new trilogy. One of the things that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man avoided was a traditional take on Spider-Man. With a fourth film, they set up that possibility and can easily go down that path. Based on the idea of a fourth Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland, that’s enough to get me excited.

10. Captain America: Brave New World (February 14th, 2025): I know a lot of people aren’t as excited as this one as I am. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wasn’t a beloved show, a lot of people were disappointed by it. For me, I really like that show so getting more of that has me excited. I love that Harrison Ford is joining the MCU, I think he can be a great Thunderbolt Ross. I know there’s a lot of behind the scenes issues with the film, that’s not really hurting my excitement for the film. I think what they’re doing could benefit the film, maybe it won’t and it’ll hurt the quality of the film. But as of now, without knowing much about the plot I’m excited for it.

9. Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars (May 7th 2026 and May 1st, 2027): It’s kind of crazy that the next two Avengers movies are only #9 on a list like this. Normally these movies will be #1 on this list. Besides Age of Ultron, all of the other Avengers films are fantastic and top MCU movies. Those movies always deliver great cinematic experiences that are fun to see with a packed crowd. What knocks back this movie for me is we don’t know who The Avengers are. With all of the stuff going on with Jonathan Majors we don’t know if Kang is the villain. I hope at San Diego Comic Con we get more information about these films.

8. The Fantastic Four (July 25th, 2025): Last week we FINALLY got casting. That’s part of the reason why I decided to do this blog post. Some of the casting I think is really good like Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, seems weird but I’ll give him a fair chance. We don’t know a whole lot about the plot, it’s heavily speculated that it’s a period piece film in the ‘60s. That can bring a fresh new energy to the MCU, make the film stand out instead of having it take place in the modern MCU. The director of WandaVision is directing the film. I liked what he did with that show. And I like they got somebody who knows the Marvel system.

7. Thunderbolts (May 2nd, 2025): This is one that I’m weirdly super excited about. There’s something about the idea of doing Suicide Squad in the MCU that sounds fun. They established these characters nicely in previous MCU movies and tv shows, a lot of them have fun personalities. It’s going to be nice to see the culmination of everything that they’ve built up come together in this movie. Once again, Harrison Ford is playing Thunderbolt Ross in the film, super excited for that. The rumored plot could tie into Eternals, so getting some crossing over sounds good to me. All around, I’m excited for this film and want a trailer.

6. Batman: The Brave and the Bold (TBA): I’m a Batman fanboy, I’ve always been a Batman fanboy and I will continue to be a Batman fanboy. This film is going to focus on The Bat Family, that sounds great! We don’t have a good cinematic version of Robin and it’s time we do. That’s a new angle on Batman that hasn’t been explored much in movie form. I’m curious as to who they decide to cast as Batman, hopefully by the end of 2024 we’ll have it. Andy Mushectti, the director of The Flash is directing. I wasn’t a super big fan of that film, hopefully he can make a better comic book movie and this one is great.

5. Joker: Folie A Deux (October 4th, 2024):I feel like Joker (2019) is a great example of a film that I both want a sequel to and one where I feel like a sequel isn’t necessary. I’m so curious to check this movie out because of what they’ve said about it. I’m not sure how a musical is the logical way to do a sequel to the first film. The same creative team is coming back, I loved the first film so that gives me hope for this film. I love what Joaquin Phoenix did with the character, he delivered a fantastic performance and rightfully won an Oscar for the role. Curious to see what Lady Gaga’s take on Harley Quinn is going to be. I really hope this movie is a worthy follow-up to the original film.

4. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse (TBA): This movie was supposed to come out next March but got delayed indefinitely, I wouldn’t be surprised if this doesn’t come out until 2026. Regardless of its release date, I’m very excited for this film because Across the Spiderverse was fantastic. I really like Into the Spiderverse, but I’ve never loved it. I think Across the Spiderverse is a sequel better than the original film. When Beyond the Spiderverse is very much a continuation of that film, I’m excited to check it out. They set up a lot of interesting things with Spider-Man 2099 and I’m excited to see where they take some of that in this film.

3. Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26th, 2024): A couple weeks back we got our first trailer for the film. Like everybody, I’m so excited to check this film out. Right off the bat, I’m excited for what they can do with Deadpool in the MCU and being a multiverse film. You can imagine all of the fourth wall breaking jokes they can do with this movie. They can crack so many jokes about the multiverse being over done, but they’re a multiverse film. The legend himself, Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine. I’m so excited to see the dynamic between Deadpool and Wolverine. If you’ve ever seen Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in real life you know we’re in for quite the treat. Easily, this one makes it towards the top of the list.

2. Superman: Legacy (July 11th, 2025): The film that is meant as the true kick off to James Gunn’s DC. James Gunn’s track record with comic book projects is pretty great. Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 were all great. So I have no doubt this film will be great and one of the best Superman films we’ve gotten. David Corenswet is our Superman, he’s not an A-lister and I’m not super familiar with his work and I like that. I like that I don’t already associate him with another big role. Nicholas Hoult is playing Lex Luthor, like that casting. Even what Gunn used to describe this film sounds interesting, he’s a younger Superman but it’s an origin story. He’s our point of view character into this world of established superheroes.

1. The Batman: Part II (October 3rd, 2025): You probably could have guessed this film was going to be very high on this list, maybe even be #1. The Batman was my favorite movie of 2022. So naturally, a sequel was going to be very high up on my anticipation rankings. We don’t know a lot about this movie, we know Clayface is going to be a villain in the movie. I like that we’re getting a villain that hasn’t been adapted into live action yet. There’s rumors that Hush is going to be our main villain, I’m totally down for that. The Batman set that up as to where they could go with a sequel. I thought Matt Reeves did a great job with the directing and world building so the fact he’s coming back is great. I’m always in the mood for more Batman.
