Top 10 Favorite LEGO Video Games

Top 10 Favorite LEGO Video Games

One of the key parts of my childhood was playing LEGO video games. So today I’m going to do something a little bit different and share my 10 favorite LEGO video games of all time. Let’s get started!

10. LEGO Batman: The Video Game: One of the original LEGO video games ever created is still a rock solid video game. And what I like about this game is that it’s very simple and straightforward. Where you get three different storylines where The Joker, The Penguin, and The Riddler recruit villains to help with their evil plan to take over Gotham City. It feels very Batman-like, and as somebody who loves Batman a whole lot that's a bit positive in my mind. I really do like that it’s simple where the later games all introduced The Justice League into the mix. And as you go into LEGO Batman 3 it’s much more of a Justice League game then a Batman game. So the fact that it’s very Batmany and straight forward, that has a very fun charm about it. And then getting to play around with a bunch of different suits for Batman and Robin is always a lot of fun to play around with. All of those elements mixed together make for a pretty fun video game.

9. LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4, Years 5-7: Now I’ve decided to just combine both of these video games together since they essentially go together very nicely. Even though these games are now 10-12 years old, they do hold up very well. I’ve just started replaying the first game, and it’s a lot of fun. Getting to play around in one of my favorite movie franchises of all time is very entertaining. Getting to use a bunch of different spells for different puzzles makes you feel like you’re in this world of wizards and witches. Since all seven of the movies have plenty of wizard action taking place it makes for some levels with a bunch of weird magic stuff going on. I do think that the second game is a better game overall then the first one. I think some of the technology with what they were able to do with that game makes it more exciting to play and experience. And then the wizarding duels that happen in the second game are a nice touch that are fun to play around in.

8. LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars: Unpopular opinion, this is my favorite LEGO Star Wars game to date. I’ve played a bit of The Skywalker Saga and haven’t played enough of The Complete Saga, to have an opinion. So that basically leaves this game LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens a game that has a bunch of filler to fix into the LEGO video game format. This game I think is a lot of fun, and as somebody who has watched the show Star Wars: The Clone Wars this game has all sorts of nostalgia for me. Several of my favorite episodes are levels in this game. It has a very robust character roster with characters from the tv show plus the original and prequel trilogy all in one game. We get three different styles of levels with the normal levels, the battle levels, and the flying levels. All of them are fun and interesting in their own ways. And the hub worlds of being a good guy ship and a bad guy ship are fun and different enough from other hub worlds in video games.

7. LEGO Jurassic World: I know this one might not be a fan favorite amongst the LEGO videogame fandom, but I’ve always had a blast with this game. And I really do like the character roster for this game. Other games might have more interesting ones with superheroes, jedis, and wizards. But this one is just a bunch of normal people, therefore making it different. Getting to play around with a LEGO version of Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Owen Grady is a lot of fun. The Jurassic Park trilogy plus Jurassic World land themselves to being fun LEGO video games. You get plenty of stealth sequences where you’re trying not to be eaten by dinosaurs. And the original film has some of the best movie scenes of all time with the T-Rex’s escape and the Velcoraptors in the kitchen. That it’s just fun to play out those great scenes in LEGO form. But of course the real stand out for this game is the fact that you get to play around as dinosaurs. It’s such a fun feature that makes it very distinct to this game. But very few games have dinosaurs as playable characters, and so having this game which offers that is very fun. Plus Jurassic Park is one of the greatest movies ever made, so getting to play a lego version of that is just something so special.

6. LEGO Dimensions: Now I think your enjoyment of this game depends on how many of the packs you got. I didn’t get every single one, but I did get a whole lot of them. And I was able to explore almost every single hub world in this game. And there’s just something so fun and special about being able to play a LEGO video game with Batman, Homer Simpson, Marty McFly, Ethan Hunt, Sonic the Hedgehog, and so many other characters all in one game. And essentially since most of these properties had never been adapted into LEGO form before, getting them in here was so great. I love that I can play around in LEGO Springfield as Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, and Krusty the Clown so much so that I want a LEGO Simpsons video game. I think that would be so cool and so many of these properties would be cool to see a fully fledged LEGO video game out of. But then even having this multiverse story before the multiverse became such a big part of modern movies is cool. And since it’s a video game and you get to interact in this multiverse it’s this extra layer of cool and fun. This game is something very different, and I’m disappointed that they discontinued making more packs for this game.

5. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes: This is the first LEGO video game where the characters started to talk, so that’s a lot of fun. Now this is the LEGO DC game where they started to go big and epic with the story. So here we get the introduction to The Justice League which is a whole lot of fun. Of course, you get to fly around as Superman in Gotham City while the John Williams score plays, that is one of the best parts of this game. The hub world itself, just getting this big epic Gotham City is so much fun to explore and fly around in. I do think this game has one of the best hub worlds in LEGO video game history, I just love the simple big open world. And then the levels themselves are so much fun and are so memorable. I think this game has one of the best opening levels to a LEGO game where you go around this hotel fighting a bunch of Batman’s Rogues Gallery. We get introduced to the new suit system here. But it’s not just that level, every level is a lot of fun. The final levels we get to play around with The Justice League and it’s just so cool to do so. So this is a pretty great LEGO video game that has a lot to offer, and it’s one of the more memorable games in my mind.

4. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham: Now this probably a very hot take for having this game so high on this list. This doesn’t seem to be the fan favorite amongst LEGO Batman fans, but I’ve always had a blast with this game. Now the best part about this game is that it has probably the best character roster of any LEGO game. It’s so large and filled with so many fun characters. You get a mix of classic DC characters like The Justice League and other iconic DC characters but also a bunch of random and obscure side characters that you’ve never heard of…including Bat-Cow. But you also get some of the DLCs ever with Arrow, The Suicide Squad, and The Dark Knight Trilogy. But it’s not just the characters that are great, the story here is great with Brainiac trying to take over the universe. It also does expand the world so we get a lot of lanterns thrown that aren’t A-list characters. And then as you move into the back half you get the emotions of the lanterns taking over different characters will provides a lot of very fun and funny moments in the story. But it’s also just a lot of fun to get an entire level dedicated to Batman ‘66, and getting to play around as Adam West’s Batman and Burt Ward’s Robin, it’s very cool and fun to do so. Plus this is the LEGO game that I’ve played the most.

3. LEGO Marvel Superheroes: Honestly, my top 3 here are all pretty great and are basically tied for number 1. This seems to be one of the most anticipated and hyped up LEGO games of all time. This was the first time when they had a big character roster filled with Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. The scope, scale, and size of this game is massive and something kind of unheard of when it came out. LEGO Batman 2 introduced a lot of DC characters, but that grid was under 100 characters. This game has like 150 characters and is packed with so many great characters that are so fun to use. It’s fun that Deadpool shows up all through-out the game, the side Deadpool levels are a lot of fun. And just getting to see a big team-up amongst The Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four is just epic. You get a level where Iron Man, The Hulk, and Wolverine break into The Raft to fight a whole ensemble of different villains. The X-Men focused level is probably the best level of the entire game. And then of course the Stan Lee in Peril is one of the best aspects of this game, getting to play as Stan Lee is something very very cool. So this is just a great video game that has a lot to offer, and is so much fun to play.

2. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers: Honestly, this game and LEGO Marvel Superheroes are basically tied for being the best LEGO Marvel Videogame. I think both are great and a lot of fun and I like both games for different reasons. Now as a massive MCU fan getting to play around in The Avengers movies with the The Avengers is just fun for me. Plus we get side levels from Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It makes me want more MCU based LEGO video games. I think it would be awesome if we got a game that focused on Infinity War and Endgame. And have it be a celebration of The Infinity Saga, I would love that if it came to exist. This is another game with a HUGE character grid to it, and it’s fun playing around in the MCU versions of The Avengers and other MCU characters. I also love the character attack moves that you can perform on foes, it’s a nice touch. And I wish we got them to continue that feature over to DC video games, because that would be fun with DC heroes and villains. It helps my love for the MCU continue, I love this is the closest LEGO MCU game that we have. It’s a lot of fun and it’s easily one of the best.

1. LEGO DC Supervillains: This is one that I was actually fairly late to playing, but I’m so glad I did. I absolutely loved this game and loved pretty much everything about it. First up, it’s one of the most fun LEGO video games, it’s one of the ones that I enjoyed playing the most. All of the levels are very fun to play and are dynamic. Second, the character grid here is really quite insane, I’ll argue the best character grid we’ve gotten. We get updated and better designs of classic DC characters, with some of the best character models out there. And I just love that you create a custom character as part of the game, and you play as that character in every single level of the game. It’s a fun feature that is very unique and creative, I loved that. Third, just getting to play as villains is truly a lot of fun. It’s something so different and fun, and since the villains are so crazy and weird the game itself feels very different when you’re playing as Joker and Reverse-Flash fighting DC heroes. Plus the story here is really cool with The Crime Syndicate taking over Earth, making the Justice League disappear. So our villains have to rescue the heroes, it’s an interesting idea that hasn’t been done before in LEGO form. So when you put it all together, you get what I think is the best LEGO video game of all time.
