My Pitch for Venom 3

My Pitch for Venom 3

Back in October 2018 Sony released Venom, a comic book based on the Venom starring Tom Hardy, the movie was a big box office success grossing $856 million. In October 2021 the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released and wasn’t as successful but still made $506.8 million and made more in its opening weekend then the original movie did. Earlier this year in April a third Venom movie was announced, and with that I wanted to pitch my idea for a third Venom movie. Let’s get started!

The Pitch: Basically this movie will take place after the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Toxin is in jail in San Francisco, he got moved over there due to crowding. Eddie Brock and Venom are roaming San Francisco as heroes, the myth of Venom is starting. The public is becoming more and more aware of Venom’s existence. Causing some tension with Venom and the police force as the police view Venom as a criminal. This will be something that was teased at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage with Venom on the run. A new hero emerges called Agent Anti-Venom that is working with the police to take down Venom. Detective Mullins is revealed to have connections and knows information about Agent Anti-Venom. Eddie Brock and Venom must prove himself to the law and defeat Agent Anti-Venom, and expose all of the evil surrounding him.

The Set-Up:

  • The movie is going to start with a nice shot of The Golden Gate bridge, we zoom in on a car and Flash Thompson from The Amazing Spider-Man franchise played by Chris Zylka is driving a car, and is one the phone with his girlfriend. Traffic is dead on the bridge, Flash hangs up and sees what’s going on. Several cars ahead a man is standing on top of it with a gun and other mercenaries around the car, they are threatening to blow up the bridge if they don’t get $10,000,000, time is running out the bridge is going to explode but suddenly Venom comes in and saves the day, and pretty quickly starts taking the thugs out. But one of the thugs acts as an extra detinator and presses the button causing the bridge to fall apart and collapse underneath all of these people. The police are trying to evacuate people off of the bridge and Venom is trying to save people. And in this sequence the police are not too happy that Venom is there, they do not like Venom and don’t trust him. Flash along the way is very much trying to save people and get people off of the bridge. But in the process Flash gets injured and starts to slide down the slope of the bridge that is falling. He manages to grab onto something but is hanging for dear life. He calls for help, Venom hears this but gets distracted by a thug and deals with that and isn’t able to save Flash causing him to fall. Venom saves the day, but kind of in the process destroys one of America’s great monuments, The Golden Gate Bridge.

  • The screen cuts to black and says “six months later”, and we take a shot of a military base. Inside of it an army general with a name tag that reads Pollock, a reference to Jacob Pollock a general from Marvel comics. For this movie I’m going to have Sean Bean as General Pollock, he’s an actor that has been around for a long time. And is great at playing antagonistic type roles in movies. He walks into a room where Flash Thompon is lying in a hospital bed, Pollock and Thompson have a conversation and basically Thompson is paralized from the waist down. But is given the option to become a superhero with a robotic suit that is out to get Venom. Eddie accepts, the screen again cuts to black and the title card appears (I still haven’t found a title that I’m comfortable with).

  • The next sequence will basically focus on where Eddie is in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. He has dinner with Anne and Dan, and establishes where they are at in life. And just setting in motion all of the relationships with this movie. And basically Eddie will explain to Anne why he disappeared, referencing the mid-credit scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and filling in both the audience and the characters with what happened and how he came back here and what not. And final detail here, we learn that Anne and Dan are engaged and the wedding is coming up shortly. Catching up with all of the side character from the first two movies, we get another sequence with Mrs. Chen. And kind of just establish where Eddie and Venom are, just what they have been up to in life since we last saw them. Have Venom crack jokes during all of this, have that fun banter.

  • Then we will get a scene where Flash Thompson is being put into the robotic suit, and decides he’s being called Agent Anti-Venom, it’s a new robotic and enhanced suit that the military has made for the sole purpose of taking down Venom. Thompson has some interactions with General Pollock, and Thompson goes to San Francisco where he is needed.

  • Cut back to Eddie Brock and Venom who are watching a movie on the coach, have it be some goofy movie. Like Legally Blonde or something like that, a movie that Venom wants to watch but Eddie is annoyed by. He gets a text from Anne that says “turn on the news”, Eddie does so but Venom is bummed. And it’s the police captain introducing San Francisco to Agent Anti-Venom and describing what the purpose of him is. And one thing I should mention but in between The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and this movie the public has grown more aware of Venom’s existence and the city is turning against him. But they don’t know that Eddie Brock is Venom. Venom asks “what do we do now?”, Eddie Brock responds with “we are going to go talk with an old friend”.

The Inciting Incident:

  • The next scene will be Eddie going to talk with Mulligan, Stephen Graham’s character also known as Toxin. And basically Eddie goes through the security line and the cop kind of stops him and talks with him. And doesn’t fully trust Eddie, so Eddie kind of has to talk his way into getting through security. And for this scene it’s going to try and play like Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. As the guy who Eddie goes to for help with the threat. Eddie talks with him about Agent Anti-Venom, and trying to figure out who that is. And Mulligan is revealed to be a part of the process to get this soldier made for some time. The door opens to the left and in walks Agent Anti-Venom, and a fight breaks out between Venom and Agent Anti-Venom as they are fighting. And this just shows how tough Agent Anti-Venom actually is. Venom manages to get the upper hand and tries to escape. But is stopped by Mulligan who tries and convinces Venom to take him to help him, but Venom responds with “I can do it by myself”. Breaks part of the wall and jumps out of it. Venom is trying to swing back to Eddie’s apartment to quickly grab some supplies before they flee San Francisco, they grab some cash and leave very quickly. We get another action scene, this one fairly big with police helicopters getting involved and this big chase happening through-out San Francisco. Cut to shots of Anne and Dan as they see what’s happening on the news, maybe they are trying to get to the car and help in any way that we can. They land on the ground, and police are chasing them. Venom turns back into Eddie and tries and blends in with the ground, he grabs a hat to put on. And starts to walk as he realizes he’s blended in with the crowd just enough. Basically now Eddie is just trying to get out of San Francisco to a place where he can’t be caught.

Middle Act:

  • Basically the middle act will consist of a bunch of action scenes with Venom on the run being chased by the government. You get a more vulnerable side to Venom through this, and you see that Venom is scared, and he’s worried about Eddie. More vulnerable side to their relationship through the events of this movie. For the sake of it, they are going to be just on the run the entire time. It’s not going to be them in one location just trying to lay low, but them just constantly moving. And have Eddie and Venom interact with people in the different locations and have some fun goofy stuff happen with Eddie and Venom that adds some fun moments into the mix.

  • On the villain front, we learn as to why Flash Thompson wants to get revenge on Venom. Because Thompson was going to be given the position that he always wanted with the government. So with all of this information I’m trying to ground and humanize Flash Thompson a bit, and make him not just the villain that only sees red in the movie. Have him interact with his girlfriend. Sean Bean’s character goes to Anne and Dan to figure out where Eddie has gone, maybe he also goes to Mrs. Chen and you get a scene there. And then have both Agent Anti-Venom and General Pollock visit Mulligan in prison, and once again use him in a Hannibal Lecter type role. Use him as the guy that knows information, and isn’t quite the bad guy. And I think in the middle act, pretty early Pollock lets Mulligan out of prison and together they all work together to find Eddie.

  • And the final big thing that happens here in the middle act is a big action scene where after it the motivations and sides of our main characters start to change. Where basically General Pollock and Flash learn that letting Mulligan out of prison is a bad idea, they realize that Mulligan is on a psycho path; he's killing all of the military men. But Flash who is so motivated to kill Venom, that’s his goal he teams up with Toxin. Now there will be more in this to kind of flesh it out. So now you have General Pollock and Venom teaming up which all leads to the finale.

The Climax:

  • This is the sequence that the entire move up to this point has been building towards. And you get this big epic battle between Venom and General Pollock vs Toxin and Agent Anti-Venom. For the sake of this story let’s say they are in Las Vegas. I’m not sure how the timing of it all would work out, but I think having a comic book final battle in Vegas could be kind of fun. A big fight breaks out in the center of the Las Vegas strip. Pollock tries and talks with Flash and tries to snap him out of it, but it’s not working. He’s just so involved in rage that he can’t see what he’s doing is wrong. So Pollock brings in his girlfriend to try and talk with him, and she tries to reason with him. Toxin sees this and just kills her, directly in front of Flash. Which causes this big amount of rage inside of Flash towards Toxin, and now it’s Toxin versus Flash. Venom joins in and together they defeat Toxin, they think he’s dead (but not quite).

  • And then after that we get the little epilogue where Flash doesn’t want to be Agent Anti-Venom anymore. Pollock shuts down the program and realizes that Venom isn’t actually all that bad, he is a good guy. His methods through everything just aren’t the best, he promises to do better and not be as aggressive with people. And the movie will close out with Anne and Dan’s wedding, Eddie and Venom are attending it. And somehow in some way they get roped into performing the ceremony, and have a very Eddie and Venom way for it to happen and the movie closes out on that note.
