My Pitch for The Amazing Spider-Man 3

My Pitch for The Amazing Spider-Man 3

In July 2012 the rebooted franchise of Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man was released in theaters. And became a big hit at the box office making $757.9 million. And received positive but lukewarm reviews from critics with a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released in May 2014 and while it was still a box office hit making $708.9, it received a wide negative with a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely regarded as the weakest Spider-Man movie to date. After that movie came out Sony canceled all plans for a third movie and planned a spin-off movie set in Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man universe. The franchise was rebooted in the MCU starring Tom Holland. And after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released the hate train for Andrew Garfield started and was widely known as the worst Spider-Man. And after seven years Andrew Garfield returned as the character in the mega-blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. And since then people have been wanting to see The Amazing Spider-Man 3. I’ve been wanting to see that movie ever since it was announced. So today I’m going to be sharing my pitch for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

NOTE: As we go into this, I spent a couple of days coming up with ideas for this pitch. So there might be some holes, some things that don’t quite line up. So keep that in mind, there might be some of those issues but I didn’t spend months and months coming up with this idea. `

The Pitch: The movie will start pretty much after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home after Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man returns to his universe. Soon after he returns another Spider-Man like hero shows up, a woman…Gwen Stacey. In that universe Peter died in Gwen’s hands, not the other way around. And as far as the villains of the movie go, Dean DaHaan will return as Green Goblin, Paul Gimatti will return as The Rhino, and Stephen Graham will return as Toxin. At the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage Stephen Graham’s character gets a symbiote, in the comics that character becomes Toxin. So Toxin learns about what happened in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 travels to New York City to break them out. Toxin has a vendetta against Venom, while Green Goblin and Rhino have a vendetta against Spider-Man so they team-up. As well as Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, and Venom team-up to defeat these trio of villains.

Walk-Through:

The Set-Up:

The movie will start off with a big action sequence inside of Oscorp dealing with some black hole technology. The fight will be between Emma Stone’s Spider-Gwen and Dean DeHaan’s Green Goblin. Andrew Garfield will be there too, but he was kidnapped by Green Goblin. In the process Peter Parker dies from Green Goblin stabbing him, this causing an enormous amount of rage in Gwen Stacey and just goes vicious on Green Goblin, and in the process activates this black hole technology and causes Oscorp to start to crumble, and Gwen Stacey gets pulled into the black hole transporting her to a different multiverse, that being of course Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man universe.

The next part will focus on Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker returning to his universe after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. And just swinging around New York City, going back to his apartment. And he does visit with Aunt May. Aunt May has been worried for Peter because he hasn’t been responding to texts or phone calls. And this scene will establish where their relationship is several years after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And with Andrew learning that Tom Holland’s Aunt May died, maybe you have sentimental Peter Parker interacting with Aunt May. They hug and he hugs her a bit tighter then he normally would. Setting up some moments between the two of them that will matter later on in the movie. Just a nice touch, and emotional moment you have it be revealed that this is Uncle Ben’s birthday. He would have been 75 or 80 at this point in time. But then you have Peter’s spider-sense start to go off, he makes some excuse as to why he has to leave, he does. And he secretly swings out of the building in his Spider-Man suit. Peter realizes that it’s at Oscorp, Oscorp is basically abandoned. After the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Oscorp shut down and nothing has happened to the building. Peter arrives there and it’s dark and it’s just spooky. Suddenly he gets webbed by somebody, and we know who it is but Peter doesn’t. They have a quick little fight here as they are trying to stop the other person. Spider-Gwen webs Peter’s mask and pulls it off, and puts Gwen into shock she sees Peter Parker standing right infront of her. She then pulls off her mask, and they are both in shock of seeing the person they loved killed right in front of them. For Gwen’s it's been a couple of hours, for Peter it’s been several years. Have them interact with each other, and have Gwen be very confused as to where she is. But have Peter crack some jokes about how he’s not confused because of the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Inciting Incident:

As said before Stephen Graham’s Toxin travels to New York City to break Green Goblin and The Rhino out of prison. You have this big action sequence as Toxin is doing so, Green Goblin and The Rhino help with the escape and their suits are held at the prison. And you have this fight where all three of them are causing large amounts of damage to the prison, they successfully escape. Toxin tells Green Goblin and Rhino his plan as he wants to kill Venom but knows that Venom is way too powerful for him. So gets the help of Green Goblin and Rhino while Toxin agrees to help Green Goblin and Rhino kill Spider-Man.

After this news reports break out about the big prison escape. Pretty quickly, not sure how the logic of it would work out but Eddie Brock played by Tom Hardy will show-up and start doing news reports. Get some fun interactions between Eddie Brock and Venom in the process. When they are done, Eddie Brock looks up at a building Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen are. Eddie remembers the conversations he had with the guy at the bar about a Spider-Man. Eddie goes into an ally and turns into Venom, and tries to talk with Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen, but for the obvious reasons they are kind of scared and are ready to fight whatever threat they think Venom is. They talk and agree to team-up and fight these villains. And that will basically conclude the first act of the movie.

The Second Act:

Basically a large portion of the middle act will be Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen learning about Venom and Eddie Brock. Gwen has a greater sense of revenge to get Green Goblin. But a nice touch here is that Peter is trying to talk with Gwen about learning to control that anger. Gives a similar speech to Gwen that he gave to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in No Way Home, and repeats the line “after Gwen’s death I stopped holding my punches”. Have some nice flirty banter between the two of them. Have some jokes with Venom being annoyed and disgusted by all of the flirty remarks. And through-out this as well have Peter and Gwen figuring out a way to get Gwen back to her earth. In the process of all of this they go to an underground storage area underneath Oscorp and find the machine that is still working to send Gwen Stacey home. But are interrupted by a phone call, that we will talk about later.

Also somewhere in this movie have Eddie Brock and Venom go off on their own adventure with investigating and using the news reporting skills to figure out what exactly is going on. Why did Toxin break Green Goblin and Rhino out of prison? Have a fight occur between Venom and Toxin that establishes more of this rivalry between the two of them. Have Toxin’s plan be revealed to Venom in a fun action sequence sort of way. Learn more about Toxic relationships with Detective Mullins (the officer that the symobite took control of) in the process of all of this. Have Toxin get the upper hand here with outsmarting Venom, defeating them and knocking both Venom and Eddie out. And Toxin takes Venom as this prisoner.

Then along the way have some fun interactions between Green Goblin and Rhino and talk about what they know about the other one. Maybe it is revealed that Rhino has a bit of history with Norman Osborn that causes Rhino to not fully trust Harry Osborn. Have some tension between the two of them.

And the other thing that happens in the middle act is you have Aunt May sent to the hospital and it is revealed she has cancer. That was the phone call that Peter received that caused them to rush over to her. When they get there Aunt May is unconscious the doctor says she will be ok, Peter realizes that his blood can make a cure that can save Aunt May, he does what he has to do and the doctor attaches it to the system and she wakes up. Her and Peter have an emotional talk, Aunt May has known she has cancer for quite some time but didn’t tell Peter. May sees Gwen and starts to ask a question, but is happy to see her. And when she does this Peter tells her that he’s Spider-Man, tells her about the multiverse, and why Gwen is here. And in this Aunt May says that she always kind of knew that Peter was Spider-Man but never said anything about it.

The Climax:

The big climax that everything has been building towards takes place around and at the hospital. Where before Green Goblin is able to attack Aunt May, Peter and Gwen are there to stop him. Rhino starts climbing the side of the building like King Kong, Peter goes out and fights Rhino while Gwen fights with Green Goblin who is flying around the hospital. And have this very dynamic action sequence with a bunch of web swinging action taking place here. Have Toxin show-up and have him go in and attack Aunt May, but before he does so Venom saves the day and is the calvary moment in the finale of the movie. And so you have Spider-Man and Rhino fighting, Spider-Gwen fighting Goblin, and Venom fighting Toxin. This fight will be long, it’s not going to be short and everybody has a moment to shine. And have Green Goblin starting talking to Gwen which starts to push her over the edge a little bit. And Green Goblin starts to figure out that in her universe killed that version of Peter Parker. And starts testing Gwen’s limits, that’s the kind of talking he will be doing with her.  but has herself realized that she is turning to the very person that Peter doesn't want her to become but stops in the process, causing Gwen to get distracted, Green Goblin starts getting the upper hand during this. Have Gwen say “I’m not going to kill you, not like how you killed Peter”, and have Gwen come full circle in this moment. And in the process, not sure how it happens but both Green Goblin and Rhino die in this sequence, it’s kind of their own faults. But Toxin doesn’t die, setting up Venom 3 (which I’ll be doing a pitch for like this one).

In the epilogue of this, Aunt May is going to be ok. She's not going to die or anything. I did debate killing her off but decided not to because I didn’t want to rehash plot points from No Way Home. Peter and Gwen have an emotional good bye, they kiss and Gwen goes back to her universe. When she does this have a cameo from Dennis Leary as Captain Stacey. Eddie and Peter say their goodbyes, and Eddie heads back to San Francisco. And have the movie close out with Peter having dinner with Aunt May while she’s in the hospital.

Credit Scenes: As it is a Marvel movie of course there has to be a mid-credit scene. And this one will focus on Gwen Stacey in her Spider-Gwen suit swinging around New York City. She stops at the top of a building and is looking over the city. She hears somebody behind her, she turns around and sees a young boy standing there. They have some interactions, she asks him what his name is, he responds with “Miles”, and the movie ends. And it then says Spider-Man: Miles Morales coming soon.

There you have it, there is my pitch for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. As said before I will be doing several more of these pitches for this Andrew Garfield/SPUMC universe.

October: Venom 3

November: Spider-Man: Miles Morales

December: The Sinister Six

January: Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 (this will be in it’s own universe, but a Spider-Man related pitch)

What are some other pitches you would like to see me do? I have some ideas for some non Spider-Man related pitches. Thanks for reading!
