Announced MCU Projects with No Release Dates

Announced MCU Projects with No Release Dates

Just a couple weeks back we finally got the plan for Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU. And with Phase 6 we got 3/11 of the phase. That means we still have 8 projects with no release dates. So today I’m looking at Marvel movies and tv shows that have been announced that don’t have a set release date or release window.

NOTE: I’m only including projects that Marvel has officially announced as coming out. So most likely Doctor Strange 3, Captain Marvel 3, Eternals 2, etc are happening there hasn’t been a public announcement made about them.

  • Deadpool 3: Back in 2019 Disney bought the rights to 20th Century Fox which means Marvel now owns the rights to The Fantastic Four and the X-Men. We do have an official release date for The Fantastic Four movie which is November 8th, 2024.  But nothing about Mutants or X-Men whatsoever has been set. And back in January 2021 it was confirmed that Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds will be happening and it is taking place inside of the MCU and it is rated 4. The writers of the movies have returned and Shawn Levy who directed Free Guy and The Adam Project, which also starred Ryan Reynolds is directing the movie. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the first two movies and Zombieland, are returning to write the screenplay. The previous movies made a combined total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. The original weekend opened Valentine’s Day Weekend and President’s Day Weekend and it did quite well making $132.4 million for the three day and $152.1 million for the four day. And Ryan Reynolds has said that filming should start pretty soon. And it’s rumored that at D23 in September there will be some big announcements. I'm guessing an announcement for this movie will happen with a release date. And there is a Marvel Studios film scheduled for February 16th, 2024 I’m guessing that is when Deadpool 3 will be hitting theaters.

  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the big hits of last year. It was the 8th highest grossing movie of last year, grossing $432.2 million at the worldwide box office. And had the highest opening for a labor day release with $75.3 for the three day and $94.6 million for the four day. So naturally in December 2021 a sequel was confirmed with Destin Daniel Cretton returning to write and direct the movie. And there isn’t much about this movie to get me excited for it. The only thing we know is the director is coming back. Simu Liu is coming back since he is the star of the franchise, a very very high chance he’s returning. And I would assume Awkafina is also returning. She was a key piece in that original movie, so I think bringing her back is a pretty safe direction to take things. As for me, I’m guessing that 2025 is the earliest that we will see this movie, just based on the timing and the fact that not much has been said about it. And as for me, I think that February 14th, 2025 could be the release for this movie. But there is also a July 25th, 2024 release date…maybe it’s that one.

  • Untitled Shang-Chi Spinoff Show: The same day the sequel was announced a spin-off series was also announced. And once again, not much is known about this series and it is rumored that this show will focus on Shang-Chi’s sister and The Ten Rings. It is confirmed that the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton is a producer for this show. And I would guess that this show will premiere before the sequel, and provide the bridge between the two movies. So there is a show scheduled for Winter 2024, so based on my speculation I’m thinking this is when the show could premiere.

  • Untitled Wonder Man Series: Now I’m not at all familiar with The Wonder Man character whatsoever. But this is another series that is being produced by Destin Daniel Cretton. Which leads me to wonder (no pun intended) if this movie ties into the universe of Shang-Chi. Now a couple things about this show do have me interested. First up, Andrew Guest is the head writer for the show, Guest previously worked on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, two really funny comedies of the last 10-15 years. Second, they said that it’s going to be a show commenting on Hollywood, which sounds interesting but I don’t know how it ties into the MCU or what they are building towards. And it sounds like this show could be poking fun at the MCU by doing a bit of meta commentary. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is breaking the fourth wall, so I’m not sure if those have connections or anything. But maybe there is something there. Also in the comic he spent a lot of time with Wanda, Wanda created a sit-com inside of the MCU. Something that maybe Hollywood might do something with. It sounds like the show might not start filming until 2023. And we are getting another show that is scheduled for Fall 2024, maybe this is when it’s going to premiere.

  • Untitled Wakanda Series: Back in February 2021 it was reported that Ryan Coogler the director of the 2018 smash hit Black Panther and its upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be developing a Wakanda series. Not much is known about the series or what it’s about, the only thing we know is…it’s coming. And there also have been rumors that Namor played by Tenoch Huetra who will be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be getting his own series as a spin-off from the movie. Maybe they are the same project, that’s just my speculation, that's my guess. Once again, I’m thinking that either it could either be Spring 2025 or Summer 2025.

  • X-Men/The Mutants: Ever since Marvel Studios got the rights to the X-Men and The Fantastic Four, people have been wondering if we are ever going to see Wolverine, Professor X, and the other roster of heroes inside of the MCU. Well it sounds like something might actually be happening with that. I’m guessing Phase 6 would be the earliest that we shall see them. From what I’ve heard, it sounds like a movie is in the works and probably won’t happen until Phase 6. So I’m thinking this movie could happen either in between The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars or happen in between Fantastic Four and The Kang Dynasty.

There you have it, announced MCU projects with no release dates and my prediction as to when those would hit theaters on Disney+.
