My 15 Favorite Movie Scenes

My 15 Favorite Movie Scenes

I think it’s safe to say, I’m a pretty big fan of movies. And one of the big lists that I haven’t done yet is share my favorite movie scenes. So here are my picks for my 15 favorite movie scenes.

NOTE: To state the obvious, this list will be filled with SPOILERS so be careful what you read. Also, these scenes aren’t in any particular order, they are just a list as I made them.

MESSAGE: Also…today is the 2 years anniversary of my movie blog. 2 years ago today I dropped my review of Die Hard. And I’ve enjoyed doing my blog ever since then, it’s been a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone that read, commented, and shared my blog!

  • Rescuing Mark Whatney (The Martian): This is a scene that has just always been so incredibly satisfying and emotional for me. Because we went on this adventure with Mark Whatney as he was stuck on Mars, and wasn’t sure if he was going to survive. So when his crew comes back to him, the only way to rescue him is this incredibly  difficult way but they accomplish it. The crew gets their friend back, they have to rescue their friend and bring him home. And the way it’s done with the cinematography and the music makes it for one of the most satisfying moments of all time. I love what Ridley Scott was able to pull off with this sequence.

  • “Crashing this Plane” (The Dark Knight Rises): Now I can’t imagine this scene will be in most people's favorite scenes. But these are my favorite scenes, and I love them. This is one of the movie scenes that I’ve rewatched the most, where you get a great score by Hans Zimmer mixed with a great introduction for the character of Bane. In this sequence you get some of Bane’s best quotes, and they are iconic and memorable. And if you don’t know this sequence was shot with no CGI whatsoever. When you see the exterior shots of the plane they were actually flying those planes. And that is what is so incredible about this scene, Christopher Nolan shot an epic airplane heist thingamajig and it’s awesome to watch.

  • Meeting Ransom Drysdale (Knives Out): Once again another scene that most people wouldn’t have on this list. But I love Knives Out and I love Chris Evans’ performance as Ransom Drysdale. And this introduction scene in this movie is so funny, and it just shows how much of a douchebag this character is. He’s so mean but has a great sense of humor about it, to make it one of the most memorable and most rewatchable movie scenes of all time. And it’s also just great to see how other characters react to this obnoxious douchebag of a character. So I loved watching this scene for the first time in the theater.

  • Lobby Fight (The Matrix): One of the best action sequences of all time, and one that everytime I watch The Matrix I always look forward to watching this sequence and loving what I’m watching. Where the sound design mixed with what Neo and Trinity are doing is just incredible. And this is a scene that I wish I could experience on the big screen because of just how incredible it is. And this is one of the most expensive movie scenes ever made because of how many takes they needed to do, because Keanu Reeves slipped and kept on messing up. So this is a scene that is truly iconic, and it’s one of the great sci-fi action sequences of all time. So easily, this scene makes the list.

  • “What’s in the Box?” (Se7en): I think this scene wins the award for the greatest movie ending of all time. When going into this movie, I knew there was a big twist and I was trying to guess what the twist was, and you get to this scene and holy crap this movie ends on a high note. Where John Doe still has one more day, he still has one more kill he has to do. And that is “wrath”, and he’s not the one to do it. He kills Gweyenth Paltrow, Brad Pitt’s wife in the movie, and Brad Pitt being wrathful kills John Doe. And you get that iconic line of “what’s in the box?”

  • Going back in time (Back to the Future): The original Back to the Future movie is one of the most iconic and most beloved movies of the 1980s. And there are so many iconic and memorable scenes in this movie, and I think the one that is on the top of the list is when Marty McFly first goes back in time to the 1950s. You get a great mini chase taking place in the parking lot of a mall, mixed with Alan Silvestri’s score and you get this incredibly memorable scene that is super rewatchable and super exciting. So I knew I wanted to include a scene from Back to the Future on this list, and this was the scene I went with.

  • Meeting Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs): The Silence of the Lambs might be the creepiest and most distrubing movie that I’ve seen. And once again, there are so many memorable and fantastic sequences that I could have gone with. I debated going with where Hannibal Lecter escapes leading into the finale of the movie. But when both the audience and Clarice Starling meet Hannibal Lecter, that was the scene that I decided to go with. And it just shows how great of a character Hannibal Lecter really is, and how fantastic and legendary Anthony Hopkins is in the role. And he gets so many just gross and creepy moments in this scene, and it’s truly a work of art what they did with this movie.

  • The T-Rex Escapes (Jurassic Park): I’ve been in a bit of a Jurassic Park mode after watching all of the movies in preparation for the new one. And without question, the original movie is the best movie in the franchise. And this is my favorite scene in the movie and the entire franchise. Where it just builds tension as you are wondering which of these characters are going to survive. And it just works because Steven Speilberg is the master at crafting these sequences that are so memorable and exciting. Plus, it’s over an hour into the movie and it’s the first time that dinosaurs are let loose on the island. So all in all, this is a fantastic scene.

  • “I Am Your Father” (Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back): I would imagine this scene would also be one of my dad’s favorite movie scenes of all time. And this is another super iconic and super memorable scene. Where you get the first confrontation between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, where this movie is more so Luke’s origin story and the pay off to that is him fighting Darth Vader. And you get quite possibly the biggest movie twist of all time, and the most iconic movie twist of all time. Where Darth Vader is Luke’s father and it changed the trajectory of the franchise forever.

  • The Final Battle (Spider-Man: No Way Home): Now this final battle is truly something special for the fans. Because this movie successfully pulled off merging three generations of Spider-Man movies into one epic and awesome movie. Where you get Tom Holland interacting with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield and it’s all done in a way that is awesome. All of them get their moment to shine, where they get to be awesome. You get Andrew Garfield saving M.J., a nice pay off moment for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And you also get the fantastic score by Michael Giachinno, easily one of his best scores.

  • Interrogation Scene (The Dark Knight): I love The Dark Knight, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. And the interrogation scene is quite possibly the greatest movie scene in any Batman movie or any DC movie. This is where Heath Ledger's acting as The Joker is at its best where he is trying to mess around with Batman, but Batman isn’t having it. And so you get Batman when he is angry and just wants answers from Joker. You get some great lines where cops think they should go in and stop him, but nobody wants to be scared. But all in all, it’s both directed and acted wonderfully.

  • “Funny How?” (Goodfellas): The day that I’m writing this is just a couple of days after Ray Liotta passed away, so RIP to a legend. And what’s so remarkable about this scene is it’s all improvised by Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci was just going for it with this scene, and when you have Ray Liotta looking scared, that was an actual look of fear. And you get some iconic quotes that I always find ways to use in conversation. And it’s so iconic, and loved by so many people and it’s a bit impressive that it is because it was all off the cuff by Joe Pesci. So with it being iconic and super duper memorable, it had to make the list.

  • “Where’s my Super Suit?” (The Incredibles): As I’m writing this The Incredibles is my favorite animated movie of all time. But it switches between this, The Lion King, and The LEGO Movie. And this scene is one of the most memorable and most rewatchable scenes of all time. Where it's this simple line, that on paper shouldn’t be super interesting. But having Samuel L. Jackson doing his thing during this scene just makes all that more memorable. And I love that the movie pauses in the middle of its big cinematic finale, to have a small little joke that is really funny and really works. So this is a scene that I love rewatching all of the time.

  • The Parade (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off): This is one of my top 3 favorite comedies of all time. Every single time I watch this movie, I laugh out loud. And the parade scene is truly one of the most iconic movie scenes of the 1980s. Where it starts off with Ferris Bueller singing “Danke Schoen” by Wayne Newton. And turns into him signing “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles. You get the crowd joining in on the fun, and it’s just a great little scene that always puts a smile on my face. And it’s one of those scenes that just works by itself, if you just watch this scene without any context it still works and it’s still really really funny.

  • The Final Battle (Avengers Endgame): You knew this one was coming, you knew this scene was going to be on here. And basically, like Spider-Man: No Way Home I decided to just pick the entire final battle. Because this hour of the movie is truly something special. Something so special for millions and millions of fans around the world, that got to experience Captain America picking up Mjolnir. When that happened…my theater went nuts, everybody was clapping and cheering. And then you get the portals, you get everybody coming back to life. In the greatest “here comes the calvary” moment in movie history. And that is just something truly special, that they paid off so much fan service and all of it works. All of it is awesome to watch, and over 3 years late it’s still epic and awesome to watch. So easily, this scene makes the list.

There you have it, my 15 favorite movie scenes of all time. Which movie scene is your favorite?
