Top 10 Favorite Stan Lee Cameos
One of the things I was always most excited to see in Marvel movies was when and where Stan Lee would show up. But Avengers Endgame was the last movie to have a Stan Lee cameo. So today I wanted to share my 10 favorite Stan Lee cameos in Marvel movies.
10. Uninvited Wedding Guest (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer): Now this is not a good movie, it’s one of the weaker comic book movies of all time. But the actual Stan Lee cameo is a great one and fun one. What makes this one so much fun is Stan Lee is playing Stan Lee. He was “invited” to Reed and Sue’s wedding but he’s not on the guest list. And it’s one of the funnier cameos and it just works for me. So this is one of the better things to come out of the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies. So I do enjoy this one a good bit.
9. High School Graduation Audience Member (The Amazing Spider-Man 2): Another movie that isn’t very good but it does have a very solid Stan Lee cameo. Where Peter Parker swings into his graduation ceremony quickly changes and still has the Spider-Man mask one. Stan Lee is the only one that notices that Spider-Man is there. It’s not a big flashy scene but it is a nice little moment that it’s fun to see Stan Lee at a high school graduation. Like I said, this cameo isn’t in the best of movies but it is a fun little scene that I do have a good time with everytime I watch this movie.
8. “Nuff Said” (Spider-Man 3): Yet again, another far from great Marvel movie but one that does have a great cameo inside of it. And what I like about this cameo is that he gives some great advice to Peter Parker. That doesn’t necessarily change him as a person, it sets in motion his arc for the movie. But it does it encourage Peter just a little bit more, and that was really cool the way they did that. Stan Lee also has two famous catchphrases with “Nuff Said '' which was said in the scene. And then “Excelsior” which I don’t believe he ever said in a cameo. But a nice little moment in a frustrating movie.
7. Sakaar’s Barber (Thor Ragnarok): What’s so fun about this cameo is that it ties into the plot. Like going into the movie, we knew that Thor was going to be getting a haircut. And when it happens, I love that it’s Stan Lee. Stan Lee is the one to give Thor a new haircut. I thought that was just done very well and it puts a smile on your face. Obviously, Thor’s new hairstyle doesn’t affect the plot of the movie. But it does give Thor a new look and a better look in my opinion. So just another rock solid cameo.
6. School Bus Driver (Avengers Infinity War): Another cameo that isn’t super flashy but a nice little touch. And it’s nice to see that Stan Lee is the bus driver for Peter’s field trip. And it’s just a nice little moment that puts a smile on your face. When I saw this movie opening night, everybody in the audience was clapping multiple times through-out the movie. This was one of them, and I couldn’t hear what he said till I rewatched it the next weekend.
5. The Unfortunate Soda Drinker (The Incredible Hulk): This is a cool little cameo in a not so good Marvel movie. But what’s so special about this moment is that this cameo sets in motion the movie. In Brazil, Bruce Banner is making soda in a factory. His blood gets in one of the bottles. And Stan Lee is the one to drink that soda bottle. Which sets in motion General Ross chasing after Bruce for the movie, leading to some of the conflict taking place. That’s really clever and I like that about this cameo.
4. FedEx Delivery Man (Captain America: Civil War): Now this one that always gets a big laugh out of me every time I watch this movie. And it’s so late in the movie, that you completely forget about a Stan Lee cameo. And then when it happens, it’s such a pleasant surprise. And it’s a package for Tony Stark but he says Tony Stank. Rhodey’s reaction to the moment is really funny and it makes it a bit better. So this is one of the funniest Stan Lee cameos out there.
3. Talking with The Watchers (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2): This is an interesting one because there is a big plot hole involving this cameo. Because Stan Lee is telling The Watchers about the time he was a Federal Express Agent, referring to the Civil War. Which came out before this movie, but in the timeline of things this movie happens before Civil War. But with the cameo itself, it is a fun little scene where it confirms The Watcher inside of the MCU. And I’m not sure if we will see this version of The Watcher and if we do, will Jeffrey Wright play him. That could be interesting to see.
2. How to wear Underpants (Big Hero 6): When I made my original draft for this movie, I forgot that Stan Lee has a cameo in this movie. So it wasn’t on this list, but after I saw it I realized it has to be high on this list. But it’s teased earlier in the movie that maybe Stan Lee is Fry's grandfather. And to see an animated version of him in the mid-credit scene is really fun to see. I love this scene and it does make the movie slightly better for me. So this is such a great little scene that always put a smile on my face
1. The Librarian (The Amazing Spider-Man): For me, this is the one that gets the biggest reaction out of me every time it happens. It happens in this great little fight scene between Spider-Man and The Lizard at the high school and it pauses to have this fantastic cameo by Stan Lee. Where Spider-Man and The Lizard are fighting behind Stan Lee, and Lee is listening to music and can’t hear what is happening. I just love this moment, and I think it just works. It puts a big smile on my face and I just love what they did here.
There you have it, my 10 favorite Stan Lee cameos. What is your favorite Stan Lee cameo? Thanks for reading!
