2022 Super Bowl Trailers Ranked
More so than the game itself, it seems like most people are more excited for the exciting trailers for upcoming movies and tv shows. So today I’m ranking all of the 2022 superbowl trailers. Let’s get started!
7. Ambulance (April 8th, 2022): This is the latest Michael Bay movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez. And I’ve seen the trailer for this movie more times than I would want to. And they put out a 30 second tv spot during the game, and it didn’t really do much to build my excitement. It looks like a generic action heist movie that is going to be forgettable. I can’t imagine this movie being a top tier movie of the year, it’s going to be one of those movies that might get some buzz when it comes out but after 2 weeks nobody is going to be talking about this movie.
6. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (April 8th, 2022): Another movie coming out on the same day, and I found the original Sonic the Hedgehog to be a good enough video game adaptation. And this movie seems to be more high energy and more crazy and bonkers with its story. You get to see a tease of the Sonic and Knuckles action and it seems really cool. But we got a full length trailer a few months ago plus this 30 second tv spot and neither one of them wowed me. Maybe it’s because I didn’t love the original movie and was not all that excited for this movie. I’m sure I’ll see it, I’m sure it’ll be a fun enough family movie but nothing really beyond that.
5. The Lost City (March 25th, 2022): Now this is another movie in which I’ve seen the trailer a bunch of times. And this is one that I’m actually kind of excited to check out. It seems like a fun and funny romantic comedy adventure with two likable movie stars. And very curious on how Brad Pitt is used in this movie, and how much he is used in the movie. But this specific trailer basically showed a number of the jokes from the trailer with nothing new to add. So while the stuff they showed was really funny it was stuff I have seen before. So hopefully I'll be able to see this movie opening weekend.
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Ring (September 2nd, 2022): As most of you know I haven’t seen an entire Lord of the Rings movie. But I have seen the first two Hobbit movies, An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug. And this trailer wasn’t really winning me over. I think the basic idea of doing a prequel to the entire Middle Earth franchise is a cool idea. And with it happening over 6-8 episodes means they can tell this big epic sprawling story about the origins of all of this mythology. And this very much was just a teaser trailer showing images but not through line with a story.
3. Moon Knight (March 30th, 2022): This is the first Marvel Disney show to come out in 2022. And it’s happening in just a month and a half. And this is one of these shows that I’m really excited to see. And I wish we got another full length trailer but this tv spot we did get was very interesting. Because it didn’t show much of the plot but we did see more of Ethan Hawke which was missing in the trailer we got last month. And we saw some more intriguing shots that I want to see them in context of the show. So this is one that I’m really excited to see at the end of March.
2. NOPE (July 22nd, 2022): This is the newest Jordan Peele movie horror thriller. And I haven’t seen his previous movies, Get Out or Us. But I really dug this trailer and it looks like a solid horror thriller that is going to be interesting. The cast seems like it’s pretty solid. And what I liked about this trailer is that it didn’t really give much of the plot away, we only saw some images with no context of what they were in. And so I wasn’t expecting much from this trailer and I thought it was a very solid trailer.
1. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6th, 2022): This. Trailer. Was. Epic. And Awesome. I thought all of the stuff they showed in this trailer got me so excited. It has weird images that I’m not quite sure what they mean. You get Sam Raimi returning to direct a Marvel movie and he seems like a great pick for this project. And you get a tease that the legendary Patrick Stewart is returning as Professor X inside of the MCU. So I can’t wait to see this movie in the first weekend in May because it looks like a top tier MCU movie.
There you have it, my ranking of the 7 2022 superbowl trailers. Which one was your favorite? Thanks for reading!
