Top 20 Favorite Movies (10-1)

This is the final blog post in my birthday post series. Also this is the part 2 to my top 20 favorite movies of all time.

10. The Martian: One of my favorite movies of the last decade, and a movie that I don’t think a lot of people talk about. Matt Damon was born to play this character where he could be dramatic and can also be fun to see on screen. The rest of the cast with Jeff Daniels, Jessica Chastian, Sean Bean, Michael Pena, and Donald Glover do a nice job of filling out the cast. And the visuals for the movie are incredible so my favorite of the past decade. Finally, the moment can be very satisfying once you move to the final 5-10 minutes of the movie.

9. Captain America: Civil War: This MCU and superhero movie is epic and awesome. What I love about this movie is that it can be dramatic when it needs to be dramatic, it can also be entertaining when it needs to be. And the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man works in this movie. They have 8-5 years of backstory for each of the characters, so the conflict comes naturally. The airport sequence is still one of my favorite action scenes in any movie ever where getting to see Team Captain America and Team Iron Man fight it out. Put the pieces together and you get a fantastic superhero movie, and a fantastic movie in general.

8. Joker: When they first announced this movie was coming out, I thought it sounded like a bad idea. Then I watched the movie and instantly fell in love with this movie. Of course, when you talk about this movie you have to mention Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. He’s a character that you can feel sorry for but also feel the darkness to him at the same time. This isn’t one of the most rewatchable movies of all time, but a movie that is fantastic and one that in my opinion should have one best picture. There have been talks about a Joker 2, and I would be down if they were to make a sequel.

7. Avengers: Infinity War: One of the problems that the MCU has is having uninteresting villains of the movie...Thanos is not one of them. Since our heroes are developed we can focus the story around Thanos where we understand where he is coming from and why he is doing what he is doing. It’s also a ton of fun to see the banter between Thor and Star-Lord, where Star-Lord is jealous of Thor. And the dynamic between Iron Man and Doctor Strange is also quite funny. And the shocking finale where Thanos wins and the heroes lose. This is such an entertaining movie that is epic and awesome.

6. The Silence of the Lambs: My favorite movie I watched in 2020, and the creepiest movie I have ever seen. Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter is creepy as heck and gets under your skin when he talks about killing people and it sticks in your head. Hopkins gives one of my top 3 favorite performances of all time. Jodie Foster as the FBI agent who is investigating a case is also fantastic in the movie. This is a movie that I don’t think any sequel or remake would be able to top. And at some point I will be ranking the Hannibal Lecter movies.

5. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back: It makes everything great about the A New Hope and makes it better. The action, the stakes, and the emotions are improved in this movie and this is most likely because the budget for the movie was quite a bit bigger. Of course, the reveal of Darth Vader being Luke’s father is iconic and the greatest plot twist in any movie. And I think the final battle of this movie is the best third act in any Star Wars movies. And in some ways Infinity War was inspired by this movie where everything got bigger and the movie ends with the heroes losing.

4. Back to the Future: A classic movie from the 1980s that to this day is still widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made. The concept of having a 1985 high schooler go back to the year 1955 and hanging around when his parents were in high school is fun to watch. Marty McFly and Doc Brown might be the greatest movie duo of all time where the chemistry from Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd is one point and in their prime. The score from Alan Slivestri is fantastic and a score that would be a great piece of music if it wasn’t in such an iconic movie. Back to the Future is one of the most entertaining movies of all time, and easily had to make it on this list.

3. Jurassic Park: “Welcome to Jurassic Park”. A movie that I re-watched at a drive-in movie theater, and loved it. There are so many iconic characters that are so much fun to see on screen. Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm steals every scene that he is in and can annoy Alan Grant in. The visuals for this movie are great even for a movie that is 27 years old they still hold up and look incredible. One of the most underrated movie scenes of all time is the kitchen scene with raptors and the kids arguably my favorite scene in this movie, that is jam packed with fantastic movie scenes.

2. The Dark Knight: The second movie in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy that is my favorite of the bunch. Where Nolan took inspiration for crime thrillers like Heat and the Departed whether then taking inspiration from other comic book movies. And that is what makes this movie so special it would still be fantastic if it had nothing to do with DC comics. Heath Ledger is fantastic where you don’t see Ledger all you see is this force of chaos terrorizing Gotham City. Put the pieces together and you get one of the greatest movies ever made and one of the greatest comic book movies ever made.

1. Batman and Robin: This movie is a masterpiece, the acting from the cast is some of the best acting I have ever seen. I love this movie and think it should have won best picture at Oscars….JUST KIDDING! This is one of the worst movies ever made.

1. Avengers Endgame: I thought this movie wins the award for the best theater experience. I saw this movie opening night with a sold-out crowd of people, and that was a fun time. But the movie I don’t think there is anything else to say about this movie that hasn’t already been said. The final battle of this movie is my favorite final battle in any movie ever. It has some of my favorite movie moments of all time. And the deaths that happen in the movie are so emotional and I teared up when that happened. I’ve heard some people don't like this movie because the time travel logic doesn’t make any sense, I get that but it has never bothered me about the movie.

Well, you guys have seen my top 20 favorite movies of all time. What are some of your guys favorite movies of all time? Look forward to some more content coming soon.
